Date Rape Drugs...

What You Should Know about Date Rape Drugs

Liquid E. Roaches. Special K.

These are a few of the cute nicknames for the “date rape” drugs so prevalent in night clubs and venues around the world. Problem is, although they’re everywhere, you might not know these drugs are at the same club you’re at until you’ve been victimized. By then it could be too late.

They’re undetectable

You can’t see them. You can’t smell them. You can’t taste them. You can’t feel them. And you don’t even need to be on a date to be a victim. That’s what makes them so frightening.

If you’ve ever been slipped one of these drugs, you probably didn’t even know it at the time. You might not have known later on either, since you usually can’t remember what happened after you’ve been drugged.

Many victims are only able to report a feeling that “something wasn’t right” and that feeling is what leads law enforcement and medical personal to suspect this type of intoxication. Even though the drugs can induce feelings of comfort and relaxation after taken, they are far from innocent.

They’re dangerous

Deadly even, especially Flunitrazepam, also called Rohypnol. At nearly ten times stronger than Valium, overdosing is easy. On the street, kids call this pill that dissolves easily in liquid names like Roofies, Rib, Mexican roaches, Roapies, Roap, and the most descriptive, Run-trip-and fall.

Other date rape drugs include GHB, or GammaHydroxyButyrate, which goes by street names like Georgia home boy, Grievous bodily harm, Scoop, Liquid X, Cheery Meth and others. Then there’s Ketamine, also known as Special K and Vitamin K, but not the kind you find in the grocery store. Both GHB and Ketamine come in clear liquid form.

As dangerous as these drugs are, many people take them willingly, especially teens. They’re popular in clubs, raves, bars, and other places where teens and young adults hang out. These club drugs aren’t expensive and they’re pretty easy to get. But none of this changes the fact that they’re dangerous, especially when they end up in the wrong hands.

They’re easily slipped in

Your best line of defense against date rate or club drugs is knowledge. Since these drugs are nearly impossible to see or taste, you should never leave your drink unattended, not even for a few moments. If you do leave it unattended, spill it out when you return. I know; drinks are expensive. But this is one time when it’s definitely better to be safe than sorry.

When you’re out, keep an eye on your drink from the moment it’s prepared until you finish the last sip. If someone opens a drink for you, politely refuse. Don’t drink out of any kind of large container like a punch bowl, and don’t drink someone else’s drink, either.

For added protection, take along some of those new coasters with built-in date rape drug testers that turn a different color when a date rape drug is detected in your drink. They really work and they might even prevent you from becoming a statistic.

If you have had an experience with date rape drugs please let us know, we need to stop this problem once and for all.

I curse the day when I met a guy online, we had a couple of chit chats, he invited me for a dinner and I decided to accompany him. To my surprise he didn’t take me to a restaurant for a dinner but to a night club for a party where all his friends were drunk and waiting for him. All I remember is that he paid me a drink and the next day I found myself naked in a motel. I don’t remember having gone there and had no idea of what could have happened that night but one thing I’m certain of is that I have been raped by several men, that guy is not been seen online ever since.
