Thrombocytopenia Idiopathic General Information

Thrombocytopenia is a common medical condition, also widely known under the generic, short name of thrombopenia. Most scientists define it as the abnormal presence of very few platelets in the patient’s blood. The healthy platelet count for a normal individual is known to generally range from 150,000 and 450,000 platelets per microlitre. A deviation of the individual’s platelet count does not necessarily mean that they are suffering from a clinical illness. Another thing that should be taken into consideration is that the platelet count of a blood sample is known to quickly decrease in time; for this reason, the medical exam can show an abnormally low platelet count due to a prolonged delay between the taking of the blood sample and its analysis.

The presence of this hematological disorder (Thrombocytopenia Idiopathic) leads to some blood clotting problems (difficulties). The thrombocytes (the platelets) are colorless blood cells that are known to play an important part in the normal formation of blood clots where a blood vessel has been injured. Because of this, individuals who are suffering from this disorder tend to bleed for a longer period of time when they are injured. Furthermore, they easily form bruises. Thrombocytopenia Idiopathic Symptoms

In most cases, the presence of abnormally low levels of platelets in the individual’s blood (Thrombocytopenia Idiopathic) does not trigger any clinical manifestations – this medical illness is generally asymptomatic. In most cases, the patient discovers that he or she is suffering from this medical disorder during a normal routine medical check-up. Thrombocytopenia Idiopathic Treatment

A patient who is suffering from this blood medical condition (hematological disorder) that is widely known as Thrombocytopenia Idiopathic does not normally require any specific therapy option, as the patient’s health condition should improve within the following months (6 months at most). Chronic cases of this disorder do not require any specific therapy. However, the patient who has been diagnosed with the presence of this medical disorder should be constantly kept under strict supervision (he should undergo regular blood exams – especially blood platelet checks). If any severe changes affect the individual’s health condition, the necessary measures ought to be taken.

In the most severe cases of individuals with Thrombocytopenia Idiopathic, medication therapy should be taken into consideration. In some cases, the patient may have to undergo a surgical procedure that should be able to ease the individual’s symptoms and signs. Any therapies with medicines that inhibit the functions of the platelets (such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Warfarin, and so on) should be ceased at once.

The most common medication therapy for individuals who are suffering from Thrombocytopenia Idiopathic or from Thrombocytopenia of a known cause generally consists of the intake of corticosteroid medical products (among which, the main drug of choice is Prednisone).
