Dysuria General Information

Dysuria is considered to be more a symptom than a disease itself. It is caused by an infection of the urinary tract, although it can also appear without being triggered by infection causes. This medical condition is a medical condition that affects the urinary tract, and it is described as painful feeling during urination (a medical symptom that is more commonly known as uncomfortable or difficult urination). Sensations of stinging and burning may be experienced. In general, this urinary tract disorder appears due to a bacterial infection of the urinary tract system leading to the inflammation of the kidneys (called pyelonephritis) and bladder (called cystitis). Dysuria is more common in women than in men, mainly because of the STD (sexually transmitted diseases) or UTIs (urinary tract infections). In women, Dysuria may be caused by an abnormal inflammation of the patient’s vulva (a medical condition called vulvitisis) or the patient’s vagina (disorder known as vaginitis) is inflamed. When it affects men, this medical condition causes the inflammation of the urethra (thus, urethritis appears) or the prostate (causing the disease called prostatitis) by Chlamydia or gonorrhea. It usually occurs at any age. The causes of this medical disorder are numerous and various, for example: tumors of the bladder, side effect of an anticholinergic drug used to treat Parkinson’s disease , virtually any condition of the prostate (an exocrine gland with a tubuloalveolar compound belonging to the male reproductive system), chemicals found in or bladder stones. There are many other causes that can lead to the appearance of the disease and can include irritation from chemicals in soaps, spermicides or bubble baths. The main treatment for this type of disease is Phenazopyridine.

Dysuria Symptoms

The signs and symptoms of this medical condition (Dysuria) depend on the cause of the disease. The main symptom of this kind of disease is pain felt during urination. There are many other symptoms which can include lower urinary tract infections, a condition also known as cystitis, upper urinary tract infections, a condition called pyelonephritis, urethritis and vaginitis. Each sign has its own symptom. For the lower urinary tract infections, the main symptoms are frequent urination, a chronic need to urinate, loss of bladder control, discomfort in the lower front portion of the abdomen (the area that surrounds the bladder), cloudy urine that can present a strong odor or bloody urine. For the upper urinary tract infections the main symptoms can include pain in the upper area of the back, high fever accompanied by shaking chills, nausea and vomiting, cloudy urine, frequent urination and a severe need to urinate. For the urethritis form that causes Dysuria, the main symptoms can include a colored discharge from the urethra, red areas on the front part of the urethra, frequent urination and vaginal discharge. This condition can be sexually transmitted from an individual with no symptoms at all. When the cause of this urinary tract infections is vaginitis, the main symptoms can appear as pain, soreness and itching vagina area, an unusual or smelling vaginal colored discharge, vaginal odor, pain and discomfort during sexual acts. There are also some other signs of the disease which can include the enlarged prostate, found after a rectal medical test.

Dysuria Treatment

If you feel pain while you urinate, if you have back or abdominal pain, fever, if you urinate frequent and if you experience urgent needs to urinate, then you should immediately call your health care provider and establish a date for a consultation. Do not hesitate to go to a medical check up if you observe blood in your urine or urethral and vaginal discharge that seems abnormal. These could be a sign that your disease has aggravated. In most cases, patients who suffer from Dysuria have several episodes of pain and discomfort during urinating. This discomfort usually goes away on it own, but if the pain is persistent, the patient should contact the doctor. If this medical disorder affecting the urinary tract system called Dysuria is left untreated, it can lead to the appearance of more severe complications such as fertility problems, especially in the case that the cause of the painful urination is a disruption in the normal functioning of the patient’s reproductive system. When seeing a medical professional, you will be first asked about your personal hygiene habits and sexual habits. Your genitals will be examined as well as your kidneys, to check for tenderness during the physical examination. If the person suspected of suffering from Dysuria is a man who may have problems with the prostate, then he must undergo a digital rectal exam. Women may also have to undergo a pelvic examination.

But what type of antibiotic must be taken depends as well on the cause that has lead to the urethritis. When vaginitis (inflammation of the vagina) causes the pain during urination, then the bacterial vaginosis and the trichomoniasis that determine it are also treated with antibiotics. If yeast infections occur, then the therapy is based on a series of antifungal drugs that can be administrated in more different ways: as a suppository, as a pill taken orally (by mouth) or as a cream that is being inserted into the vagina. When bacteria determine the appearance of pyelonephritis and cystitis, then the main therapy contains some antibiotics administrated by mouth. When these two causes aggravate and vomiting, shaking, chills or high fever occur, the antibiotics must be given intravenously (injected into a vein) for more rapid and better effects. If your Dysuria is caused by a disease that is sexually transmittable (in the case of sexual active individuals), your sex partner ought to undergo an immediate medical examination. Surgery may sometimes be an option, especially if anatomical problems determine the pain during urination.
