Mirapex Information

Mirapex, with the generic name of Pramipexole, works similarly as dopamine. Dopamine is a naturally occurring chemical in the body, which when insufficient, may lead to Parkinson’s disease.

Mirapex Indications

Mirapex is specially formulated to treat:

• Tremors
• Spasms
• Poor muscle control associated with Parkinson’s disease

Mirapex Warnings/Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have a kidney disease before deciding to take Mirapex. You may need to undergo special monitoring during the treatment period with Mirapex, or may be given dosage adjustments.

Mirapex belongs to a class of drugs known as FDA Pregnancy Category C. This entails that it is not certain how Mirapex may affect an unborn child.. Should you be pregnant or planning to be, have a talk with your doctor first before taking Mirapex

It is not certain if Mirapex passes into breast milk. Breastfeeding moms are therefore suggested to see their doctor prior to deciding to take Mirapex .

Patients over 65 years of age may likely experience hallucinations while taking Mirapex.

Mirapex Intake Instructions

Mirapex must be taken as directed by your doctor. If there is any instruction that appears unclear to you, ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.

Each dose of Mirapex is taken with a full glass of water. Mirapex is not a stomach irritant so it can be taken on a full or empty stomach. Food, however, may lessen nausea or stomach upset.

Dosage of Mirapex may be increased gradually within the treatment period. Do not stop intake of Mirapex until told by your doctor to do so. It may take weeks before effects of Mirapex are felt.

Mirapex Missed Dose

Unless directed by your doctor, Mirapex must not be double dosed. Should you miss a dose Mirapex, take it as soon as you remember as long as it is not almost time for the next scheduled dose. Otherwise, skip missed dose of Mirapex and proceed with the next.

Mirapex Overdose

Symptoms of over dosage of Mirapex may include:

• nausea
• vomiting
• weakness
• dizziness
• fainting
• agitation
• confusion
• hallucinations
• muscle twitching
• uncontrollable movements
• tingling sensation
• chest pain

In any of the cases above, seek immediate medical attention.

Mirapex Side Effects

Should you experience allergic reactions (such as difficulty in breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, face, or hives) with Mirapex , stop intake of Mirapex and see your doctor.

Let your doctor know if you observe adverse effects such as listed below. You may be given a lower dosage of Mirapex, or be advised to discontinue use of Mirapex:

• hallucinations
• fainting
• dizziness
• drowsiness
• falling asleep unexpectedly
• blackout (especially when rising from a sitting or lying position)

Other minor effects may also be felt when using Mirapex. In any of the cases below, continue use of Mirapex and see your doctor:

• mild nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, or decreased appetite
• constipation
• dry mouth
• sweating
• headache
• confusion
• insomnia
• agitation or anxiety

For other symptoms not mentioned that are particularly causing discomfort, tell your doctor immediately.

Mirapex Drug Interactions

Inform your doctor if you are currently taking any of the drugs below before using Mirapex:

• the stomach medicines cimetidine (Tagamet, Tagamet HB), ranitidine (Zantac, Zantac 75), or metoclopramide (Reglan)
• the heart medicines diltiazem (Cardizem, Dilacor XR, Tiazac), verapamil (Verelan, Calan), triamterene (Dyrenium, Dyazide, Maxzide), or quinidine (Quinaglute, Cardioquin, Quinidex, others)
• the malaria and leg cramp medicine quinine (Quinamm)
• a medication used to treat mania, schizophrenia, other psychiatric conditions, and nausea and vomiting, such as chlorpromazine (Thorazine), fluphenazine (Prolixin), mesoridazine (Serentil), perphenazine (Trilafon), thioridazine (Mellaril), promazine (Sparine), trifluoperazine (Stelazine), thiothixene (Navane), haloperidol (Haldol), and others
• drugs that cause drowsiness (including antidepressants, alcohol, antihistamines, pain relievers, anxiety medicines, seizure medicines, muscle relaxants)

You may need to undergo special monitoring during the treatment period with Mirapex or may be given dosage adjustments.

Have a talk with your doctor before deciding to take other prescribed or over-the-counter medicines while under treatment with Mirapex.
