UROXATRAL (ALFUZOSIN)

Uroxatral Information

Urotraxal is a drug also commonly known as Alfuzosin. Urotraxal belongs to a wide class of drugs known as alpha-adrenergic blockers. Alfuzosin’s purpose is to relax the prostate’s muscles and the bladder neck’s muscles, thus enabling easier urinating.

Uroxatral Indications

Uroxatral is used in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (also known as enlarged prostate). Uroxatral (Alfuzosin) can also be prescribed in the treatment of other disorders that have not been listed here.

Uroxatral Warnings

You may not be allowed to start taking Uroxatral if you are suffering from severe liver disorders or if you are following a treatment with itraconazole (Sporanox), ketoconazole (Nizoral), or ritonavir (Norvir) or any other alpha-blockers like prazosin (Minipress), terazosin (Hytrin), guanadrel (Hylorel), doxazosin (Cardura), drugs that treat prostate disorders or high blood pressure, medicines or drugs that treat AIDS or HIV.

You ought to inform your personal physician if you are suffering from any of the following disorders before you start taking Uroxatral:

prostate cancer;
kidney disease;
liver disease;

Uroxatral Intake Guidelines

Ask your doctor to tell you how and when to take this drug. A dose of Uroxatral is usually accompanied by a glass of water.
Uroxatral is a drug known to cause some side effects that could impair your reactions or your thinking. You should be extremely careful if you have to drive or to do any other tasks that are known to require awakeness and alertness during your treatment with Uroxatral. A treatment with this drug can cause drowsiness or dizziness (especially when you stand up after you have sat for a long period of time). In order to prevent these symptoms, you should slowly get up. If you feel light headed or if you experience chest pain you should inform your personal physician as soon as possible.

Uroxatral may affect your eye pupils during a cataract surgery. Therefore, if you are planning to have a cataract surgery while you are taking Uroxatral, you should inform your surgeon before the operation. You should not stop taking this drug without your doctor’s consent even if you start to feel better after a few days of treatment.

Uroxatral Dosage

Ask your doctor to tell you the dose of Uroxatral that works best for your condition (the dosage of this drug is known to vary from one patient to another because it depends on some factors such as the severity of the disorder, the patient’s body weight, etc).

Uroxatral Overdose

If you suspect that you are suffering from an overdose with this drug you probably are in need of immediate medical care / attention. Uroxatral overdose symptoms normally include dizziness, weakness, faster but weaker pulse, clammy or cold skin, fainting, etc.

Uroxatral Missed Dose

In order to get the most benefits from your treatment with this drug, you should take it on a regular basis. If you happen to miss one of your scheduled doses, you ought to take it as soon as you recall.
