AVALIDE (IRBESARTAN/HCTZ)

Avalide Information

Avalide can also be reffered to as hydrochlorothiazide or Irbesartan. This drug is an inhibitor of the Angiotensin II receptor.

Avalide Indications

Avalide is commonly prescribed in the case of patients suffering from high blood pressure or hypertension.

Avalide Warnings

It has been established that Avalide can cause birth defects and irreparable harm to babies. Avalide is a category D pregnancy. Therefore, if it is taken by pregnant women, it can cause injuries to the patient, birth problems and even death of the unborn child. Do not start a treatment with this drug if you are pregnant or are planning to be soon
It is also known that Avalide can pass into a nursing mother’s breast milk. You should not start a treatment with Avalide if you are nursing your infant without consulting it with your doctor first.

Avalide Intake Guidelines

Avalide Overdose

Avalide Missed Dose

• Several allergic reactions to the drug or to some of its ingredients (hives, throat closing, difficulty in breathing, rashes, swelling of face, lips or mouth)
• Irregular or fast heartbeats
• Jaundice
• Little or lack of urine excretions
• Confusion
• Unusual fatigue
• Fainting
• Abnormal bruising
• Diarrhea
• Nausea
• Dizziness
• Upset stomach
• Cramps
• Muscle pains  
• Anxiety or nervousness
• Rashes

Other side effects may also occur and if you experience any of this and it becomes intolerable and bothersome, discontinue use immediately and ask your doctor for advice on what to do next.

Avalide Drug Reactions

Avalide can unpleasantly interact with these drugs:  

• cholestyramine (Questran)  
• glipizide (Glucotrol), chlorpropamide (Diabinese),  glyburide (Micronase, Diabeta, Glynase), tolbutamide (Orinase), tolazamide (Tolinase)
• Nuprin, Motrin, Advil
• ketoprofen (Orudis, Oruvail, Orudis KT), diclofenac (Voltaren, Cataflam), nabumetone (Relafen), indomethacin (Indocin), oxaprozin (Daypro), naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn, Anaprox)
• colestipol (Colestid)
• spironolactone (Aldactone), amiloride (Midamor), or triamterene (Maxzide, Dyrenium, Dyazide)
• lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid)
• digoxin (Lanoxin)

If you are under a treatment with any of the drugs mentioned here you should not start taking Avalide without first consulting it with you physician. You might need to be under strict monitoring during your Irbesartan treatment or your dosage of the drug might be lowered.
