Amerge Information

It is said that this medicine, Amerge, works by causing vasoconstriction (narrowing) of arteries and veins that supply blood to the head.

Amerge Indications

Amerge is a medicine used to treat headache. This is also used to treat vascular headaches like migraine and other diseases not mentioned here.

Amerge Warnings

It is advised for patient to avoid or not to take Amerge if you have a basilar or hemiplegic migraine headaches; had a heart attack, angina or chest pain, or another type of heart disease; had a stroke; ischemic bowel disease or Raynaud's syndrome; experiencing a headache that is not like other migraines that you have had; was able to take another 5-HT agonist within the last 24 hours and other 5-HT agonists including almotriptan (Axert), frovatriptan (Frova), sumatriptan (Imitrex), zolmitriptan (Zomig, Zomig-ZMT), and rizatriptan (Maxalt, Maxalt-MLT); or was able to take an ergot-based medication within the last 24 hours and other ergot-based medicines including methysergide (Sansert), ergotamine (Ergostat, Ergomar), dihydroergotamine mesylate (D.H.E., Migranal Nasal Spray), and ergotamine combination products (Cafergot, Wigraine, Cafatine-PB, and others). It is dangerous for the patients to take Amerge if you were able to take the drugs mentioned.

Talk to your doctor before taking Amerge if you have risk factors for heart disease such as high blood pressure, a family history of heart disease, high cholesterol, are overweight, diabetes, smoke cigarettes, are postmenopausal, are male and over 40 years of age; have kidney disease; or have seizures or epilepsy.

Amerge belongs to the FDA pregnancy category C which means that there is a possibility that taking this product may harm an unborn baby. Consult your doctor first before taking this medicine if you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant. This drug may not be advisable if you are breast feeding a baby. This drug is also not good for patients below eighteen years of age and sixty-five years of age or older.

Amerge Intake Guidelines

Take Amerge exactly as what the doctor instructed you to do. In case you did not understand the instruction, do not hesitate to ask your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse to clarify or explain them to you. It is advisable to take this product with a full glass of water. If you experience symptoms of migraine or any time during the attack, you can take one tablet. If there by any chance that the symptoms did not improve, consult your doctor immediately.

Amerge Dosage

Your dosage will be given by your doctor. The dosage varies from person to person.

Amerge Overdose

If you are overdosed, you will experience lightheadedness; tension in the neck; tiredness; poor coordination; or chest pain. If you suspect these symptoms, consult your doctor immediately.

Amerge Missed Dose

Amerge is a medicine used to treat migraine headaches as they occur so there is no problem when you miss a dose. Just follow the dosage and instruction your doctor gave you.

Amerge Side Effects

The serious side effects of Amerge are allergic reaction like difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives; chest pain, tightness, pressure, and/ or heaviness; neck, throat, or jaw pain, tightness, or pressure; and an irregular heartbeat.

Some of the less serious side effects of Amerge are nausea or vomiting; drowsiness or dizziness; and numbness, tingling, flushing, warmth, redness, or heaviness in a body part. If you experience any of the side effects mentioned, consult your doctor immediately.

Amerge Drug Reactions

Amerge is affected by some drugs so it is required for patients to avoid or not to take Amerge when you were able to take another 5-HT agonist in the last 24 hours-5-HT agonists include almotriptan (Axert), frovatriptan (Frova), sumatriptan (Imitrex), rizatriptan (Maxalt, Maxalt-MLT), and zolmitriptan (Zomig); or an ergot-based medication within the last 24 hours--ergot-based medicines include methysergide (Sansert), ergotamine (Ergostat, Ergomar), dihydroergotamine mesylate (D.H.E., Migranal Nasal Spray), and ergotamine combination products (Cafergot, Wigraine, Cafatine-PB, and others). Also, inform your doctor if you have taken or are taking a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) such as fluoxetine (Prozac), fluvoxamine (Luvox), paroxetine (Paxil), sertraline (Zoloft), or citalopram (Celexa). If you are taking medicines which are mentioned or other drugs that affect Amerge, your doctor will give you instructions of what to do.
