Casodex Information

Casodex prevents the actions of androgens or male hormones in the body. It is an anti-androgen.

Casodex Indications

Casodex is primarily used in the treatment of cancer in the prostate. It may also be used for purposes other than those indicated here.

Casodex Warnings

Casodex may not be advisable if you have liver disease or any other serious illness. You may not be able to take this drug, may need dosage adjustments, or may need special monitoring while taking this drug if you have any serious condition.

Casodex is not indicated for women. Breast-feeding and pregnant women especially should not take this drug. It passes into breast milk and belongs to the FDA pregnancy Category X, which means that it is sure to harm an unborn baby.

Casodex Intake Guidelines

Casodex should be taken in exactly as instructed by your doctor. If there are matters that you do not understand, refer to your doctor, nurse or a pharmacist. Ask any of them to explain these matters to you.

Each dose of Casodex should be taken in along with a full glass of water. It should also be taken in with food or meals to lessen upset of the stomach.

Casodex should be taken at about the same time each day. Do not abruptly discontinue using this medication especially without consent from your doctor.

Casodex Dosage

Dosage of Casodex should be obtained from the doctor. Dosage may vary from person to person with regards to a variety of factors. Make sure to take this drug exactly as instructed from your doctor.

Casodex Overdose

Do not take more of Casodex than prescribed by your doctor. Overdose of this drug is not known to be fatal. Contact an emergency room, poison control center or your doctor if you suspect overdose.

Casodex Missed Dose

It is important not to miss a dose of this product. If a dose is missed, however, take it as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and take the subsequent dose according to your normal dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of this drug unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Casodex Side Effects

Casodex may cause serious allergic reactions, which include:

• Difficulty in breathing
• Closing of the throat
• Swelling of the lips, tongue or face
• Hives

If you experience any of these, discontinue taking Casodex and inform your doctor immediately.

Casodex also has less serious side effects that are more likely to occur. They include the following:

• Hot flashes
• Decreased sex drive or even impotence
• Diarrhea or constipation
• Breast tenderness or swelling
• Weakness
• Pain in the back or pelvic area

Continue using this drug but inform your doctor immediately especially if these side effects tend to be bothersome.

Other side effects may also occur when you take this drug. Inform your doctor immediately if you experience anything unusual in your body while or after taking Casodex.

Casodex Drug Reactions

Casodex reacts with Warfarin, a blood thinner. Taking Casodex with Warfarin may cause bleeding. You may need monitoring in your Casodex or Warfarin therapy.

Other drugs may also react with Casodex. Inform your doctor if you are taking drugs other than Casodex including over the counter prescriptions such as vitamins, minerals or even herbal products.
