Celexa is generically known as Citalopram, Celexa is a drug belonging to the class of serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

Celexa Indications

Celexa is a drug used to treat symptoms of depression and depression itself. Celexa works by counteracting chemicals in the brain that are imbalanced that are the major causes of depression.

Celexa Warnings

Celexa should never be taken if you have previously taken monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine(Nardil), or tranylcypromine (Parnate). If you have taken any of these drugs within the past two weeks, avoid taking Celexa as it may result to dangerous interactions.

Inform your doctor if you have any of the following medical conditions:

• Liver problems
• Kidney diseases
• Have been suffering from seizures
• Have been suffering from mania, suicidal thoughts or mental instability.

You may not be allowed to undergo Celexa therapy or may require dosage alteration if you have any of the mentioned diseases.

When on Celexa (Lexapro) treatment, never take Celexa and if you have been known to have allergies with Celexa, never take Celexa as allergic reactions may resurface.

Celexa is categorized as a drug belonging to Pregnancy Category C. It is not yet established whether or not Celexa may cause birth related problems or if it may harm the unborn. Do not however, take Celexa without first consulting your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

Celexa and its active ingredient have the tendency to be passed into the breast milk and it may affect the nursing the infant. When planning to breastfeed while on Celexa medication, first consider your doctor’s advice on the matter.

Celexa Intake Guidelines

Celexa should be taken exactly as your doctor prescribed the intake. Never deviate from your doctor’s instructions regarding the intake guidelines.

Each dose of Celexa must be taken with a full glass of water of about 6-8 ounces. Celexa may be taken with or without food.

Celexa Dosage

Celexa is usually prescribed for a once a day intake. However, if your doctor’s prescribes otherwise, follow your doctor’s instructions.

Celexa Overdose

Symptoms of Celexa Overdose include nausea, tremors, vomiting, dizziness, excessive sweating, and fast heartbeat. If any of the following symptoms is present and overdose is suspected, immediately consult your doctor.

Celexa Missed Dose

Never take double doses of Celexa unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor. If you happen to miss a dose and it is yet a long time for the next scheduled dose, you may take your missed dose. However, if it is near the next scheduled dose, just forego that missed dose and proceed with your next scheduled dose.

The following are the side effects that may be associated with Celexa:

• Irregular pulses and heart rates
• Dizziness
• Fever
• Chills
• headache
• Tremors
• Nervousness
• Anxiety
• Nausea
• Diarrhea
• Sleepiness
• Insomnia
• Impotence and decrease in sex drive

Other side effects may also occur.

Never mix MAOI with Celexa

Before Taking Celexa, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following:

• Antidepressants such as fluoxetine
• Tricyclic antidepressants
• Seizure medicines
• Stomach or digestive disorder medicines
• migraine medications
• Antibiotics
• Asthma medications
• Lithium
