COMBIVENT (ALBUTEROL AND IPRATROPIUM)

Combivent is a popular medicine that is widely known under the generic name of Albuterol and Ipratropium. This medicine’s main ingredients are known to relax the muscles in the organism’s airways, thus improving breathing. This medicine is also known to effectively prevent the narrowing of the patient’s airways (therefore increasing the flow of air to the patient’s lungs). This medicine can also be used in order to prevent bronchospasm seizures.

Combivent Indications

Combivent is mainly prescribed in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disorders that are also known under the name of COPD. However, this medicine might also be used to prevent or to treat some other medical conditions that have not been listed here. It may also be used for purposes other than those stated here.

Combivent Warnings

You must not use this medicine if you are suffering from a known allergic reaction to peanuts or to soybeans (this medical condition is widely known as soya lecithin allergy). This medicine (Combivent) is also not recommended if you are suffering from any of the following medical conditions:

• Diabetes
• Seizure disorder
• Glaucoma

Combivent Intake Guidelines

Ask your doctor how and when it is recommended that you take Combivent. You should follow each advice that your physician has given you. You can also rely on the instructions from the drug’s package. This medicine can be used through nebulization or through an inhaler. When using the Combivent inhaler, you must shake it well before you uncap its mouthpiece. Then, you should put the drug’s special mouthpiece into your mouth (make sure that it passes your teeth but that it remains above your tongue). It is recommended that you should place the inhaler several inches away from your mouth. As you push the medicine’s canister you should take a slow, deep breath. After inhaling the medicine you should hold your breath for about ten seconds. You can now slowly exhale. The container must be discarded after 200 inhalations.

When using the Combivent nebulization, you should open only one ampule. Put the ampule in the drug chamber of the nebulizer. You must now attach the drug chamber to the mouthpiece and to the compressor. Sit in an upright but comfortable position. In order to inhale, you must place the medicine’s mouthpiece into your mouth. To make sure that you have inhaled the entire amount of drug, you must breathe slowly and evenly. Stop breathing when the nebulizer is mist clear.

• Angina or chest pain
• Seizures
• Fluttering heart
• Irregular heartbeats
• Headache
• Tremor
• Weakness
• Vomiting
• Nausea

Combivent Missed Dose

To get the proper results from your treatment with Combivent, you should take this drug regularly. If you happen to miss a dose of this drug, you should take it as soon as you recall. If it is time for another dose, you should skip the one that you have missed and continue your dosing schedule. Do not take double doses of this medicine without your physician’s approval.

Combivent Side Effects

Combivent is known to sometimes trigger severe allergic reactions and side effects such as:

• Closing of the throat
• Difficulty breathing
• Chest pain
• Swelling of the lips, tongue or face
• Hives
• Irregular heartbeats

Combivent can also trigger less severe (but more common side effects) such as:

• Insomnia
• Headache or dizziness
• Blurred vision
• Tremor or nervousness
