Cytoxan, generic name cyclophosphamide (sye kloe FOSS fah mide) is an oral or injection type medicine.

Cytoxan Indications

Cytoxan is a chemotherapeutic medication or otherwise known as cancer medication. Other than known to treat several types of cancer, it is also used to treat some cases of nephrotic syndrome or kidney disease in children.

Cancellation of use or dosage adjustments and special monitoring may be required for patients experiencing these problems:

• Have been previously treated with other chemotherapy medicines (i.e., Alkeran, Myleran, and others)
• Need to have surgery
• Have any unhealed wounds
• Have liver disease or have kidney disease
• Have a history of heart disease
• Have had your adrenal glands removed
• Have been previously treated with x-ray therapy
• Have an infection or have had recent vaccinations
• Have bone marrow problems
• Have a low level of white blood cells or platelets

Cytoxan Intake Guidelines

Take Cytoxan exactly as to what your doctor tells you. If you do not understand the instructions ask a healthcare professional to explain them to you.

Always take each dose with a large amount of water. This could help to avoid urinary bladder irritation during treatment.

Symptoms of Cytoxan overdoes are as follows: heart problems, decreased bone marrow function, and infection.

Cytoxan Missed Dose

Take the missed oral dose right away when you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the regular dose as directed. Do not take a double dose of Cytoxan.

Cytoxan Side Effects

If you experience these serious side effects immediately seek medical attention.

• Blood in urine
• Tarry or black stools
• Pain in urinating or difficulty in urinating
• Infection signs such as chills, sore throat
• Side or lower back pain
• Chest pain
• Difficulty in breathing
• Swelling
• Unusual bleeding or bruising
• Changes in bone marrow function – should be detect in blood tests

Cytoxan Drug Reactions

Do not take Cytoxan without first talking to your doctor if you have taken any of the following medicines.

• allopurinol (Zyloprim)
• phenobarbital (Luminal, Solfoton)
• warfarin (Coumadin)
• digoxin (Lanoxin)
• chlorothiazide (Diuril)
• hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, HydroDiuril, Esidrix, Microzide, Oretic)
• chlorthalidone (Hygroton, Thalitone)
• indapamide (Lozol)
• metolazone (Mykrox, Zaroxolyn)
• other chemotherapy medicine
