Estraderm Patch is a form of estrogen, a female sex hormone that is essential for various processes occurring within the human body. The patch works by slowly releasing drugs into the skin.

Estraderm Patch Indications

Estraderm Patch is used to treat the following:

• Symptoms of menopause
• Deficiency in ovarian function
• Vaginal and urethral dryness
• Itchiness

This drug may also be used in preventing postmenopausal osteoporosis . It may also be used for purposes other than those indicated here.

Estraderm Patch Warnings

Estraderm Patch may not be advisable if you have any of the following conditions:

• Circulation, bleeding, or blood-clotting disorder

• A history of stroke or heart attack
• High levels of cholesterol or triglycerides in the blood
• Liver disease
• Kidney disease
• Asthma
• Epilepsy
• Migraine
• Diabetes

• Uterine fibroids
• Hysterectomy

You may not be able to use this patch, may need dosage adjustments, or may need special monitoring while using this medication if you have any of the conditions mentioned above.

Estraderm Patch Intake Guidelines

Estraderm Patch Overdose

Do not take in more of this drug than what your doctor has instructed. Inform and your doctor and seek immediate medical attention or call poison control, however, if you have accidentally ingested parts or whole of this medication.

Estraderm Patch Missed Dose

Applications of Estraderm Patch should not be missed. If an application is missed, however, use it as soon as remembered and apply the following patches according to your schedule. Do not apply two patches concurrently unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

If the patch happens to fall off, apply it at the same site. If it fails to stick, reapply it on another site. Change patches according to your normal schedule.

Estraderm Patch Side Effects

Estraderm Patch may have any of the following serious side effects and allergic reactions:

• Difficulty in breathing
• Closing of the throat
• Swelling of the lips, face and tongue
• Hives
• Shortness of breath
• Painful, red or swollen leg
• Pain, swelling of tenderness in the abdomen
• Severe headache, nausea and vomiting
• Dizziness, faintness or changes in vision or speech
• Jaundice
• Lump in the breast

If you experience any of the preceding symptoms, discontinue using Estraderm Patch and seek immediate medical attention. Inform your doctor afterwards.

Estraderm Patch may also have less serious side effects that are more likely to occur. They include:

• Decreased appetite, nausea and vomiting
• Swollen and tender breasts
• Acne
• Decreased libido
• Migraine headaches and dizziness
• Water retention
• Problems with wearing contact lenses
• Depression
• Changes in menstrual cycle and breakthrough bleeding

If you experience any of the preceding symptoms, continue using the product but inform your doctor immediately.

This drug also increases the risk of stroke. Discuss this possibility with your doctor.

Estraderm Patch, like all other estradiol drugs, can cause endometrial hyperplasia which can lead to cancer of the lining of the uterus. Taking progestins along with this drug lowers the risk of developing this condition.

Other side effects may also occur when you take Estraderm Patch. Inform your doctor if you experience anything unusual while or after using this drug.

Estraderm Patch Drug Reactions

Inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following drugs before taking Estraderm Patch:

• Anticoagulant
• Thyroid medication
• Diabetes medication
• Tamoxifen
• Didanosine
• Phenytoin
• Carbamazepine
• Phenobarbital
• Primidone
• Rifampin

You may not be able to take Estraderm Patch, may need dosage adjustments or may need special monitoring while taking this drug if you are taking any of the preceding medications.

Other drugs may also interact with Estraderm Patch. Inform your doctor if you are taking any medications other than this drug including over the counter prescriptions such as vitamins, minerals or herbal products.
