Famvir Information

Famvir is drug that fights off viruses. It works by slowing down the growth and spread of herpes viruses. It does this so that the body can fight off infection. This drug cuts down the amount of time the symptoms of viral infection are present.

Famvir Indications

Famvir is primarily used in treating infections caused by the herpes virus. It includes shingles, genital herpes and cold sores among people infected with HIV. It may also be used for purposes other than those indicated here.

Famvir Warnings

Famvir should not be taken if you have any previous allergic reaction to penciclovir without your doctor’s approval. It is also not advisable if you have kidney disease.

Famvir belongs to the FDA pregnancy Category B, which means that it is not known to harm an unborn child. Do not take this drug without your doctor’s permission if you are pregnant or might be pregnant during treatment. It is also unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Do not take this drug without your doctor’s consent if you are nursing a baby.

This drug may or may not be safe or effective for children below eighteen years of age.

Famvir Intake Guidelines

Famvir should be taken in exactly as described by your doctor. If there are matters that you do not understand, refer to your doctor, nurse or a pharmacist and ask him or her to explain those matters to you.

Treatment of this drug should start as soon as the first symptoms appear. Each dose should be taken in with a full glass of water. It may be taken in with or without food.

Do not abruptly discontinue taking this drug without your doctor’s advice even when your symptoms alleviate.

Store this drug away from moisture and heat and at room temperature.

Famvir Dosage

Dosage of Famvir should be obtained from your doctor. Dosage may vary from person to person with regards to a variety of factors which include severity of the condition, age and others.

Do not take in more or less of this drug so as not to alter its affects and to prevent overdose.

Famvir Overdose

Symptoms of overdose of Famvir include the following:

• Seizures
• Hallucination
• Kidney damage

If you experience any of these symptoms, you may be experiencing overdose. Seek immediate medical attention or call poison control. Inform your doctor afterwards.

Famvir Missed Dose

Doses of Famvir should not be missed. If as dose is missed, however, take it as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and take the subsequent dose according to your normal dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of this drug unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Famvir Side Effects

Famvir may have any of the following serious allergic reactions:

• Closing of the throat
• Difficulty in breathing
• Swelling of the face, lips or tongue
• Hives

If you experience any of these, discontinue use and inform your doctor.

Famvir may also have less serious side effects that are more likely to occur. They include the following:

• Nausea or vomiting
• Headache
• Diarrhea
• Dizziness
• Tingling of the hands, or feet
• Itching

If you experience any of these, continue using the product but inform your doctor immediately.

Other side effects may also occur when you take this drug. Inform your doctor if you experience anything unusual while or after taking this drug.

Famvir Drug Reactions

Famvir may interact with the drug known as Probenecid. Taking Famvir with this drug may cause dangerous side effects.

Other drugs may also interact with Famvir. Inform your doctor if you are taking any medications other than Famvir including over the counter prescriptions.
