Dramamine Information

Dramamine is an antihistamine. It works by preventing the effects of histamine, a substance produced in the body that causes itching, sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and in some cases closing of the bronchial tubes.

Dramamine Indications

Dramamine is primarily used in preventing the symptoms of hay fever and other allergies. It may also be used to prevent the following:

• Motion sickness
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Dizziness

It may also be used in decreasing stiffness and tremors on people who have Parkinson’s disease. It may be used to induce sleeping for it has a drowsing effect. It may also be used for purposes not indicated here.

Dramamine Warnings

This drug should not be taken if you have any previous allergic reaction to antihistamines.

Pregnant women should not take this drug without their doctor’s permission especially during the first few months of pregnancy for it may cause birth defects on the unborn child. This Dramamine also passes into breast milk. Do not take this drug without your doctor’s approval if you are nursing an infant.

People who are above 60 years of age are more susceptible to side effects than younger patients. People with advanced age may experience the following:

• Confusion
• Difficult or painful urination
• Dizziness
• Drowsiness
• Feeling faint
• Dryness of mouth, nose, or throat
• Nightmares
• Nervousness
• Restlessness
• Irritability

Employ caution when handling machinery or driving for this drug may cause dizziness and drowsiness.

Dramamine Intake Guidelines

This drug should be taken in exactly as directed by your doctor. If there are matters that you do not understand, refer to your doctor, nurse or a pharmacist and ask him or her to explain those matters to you.

Do not take in more or less than your doctor has advised and follow the instructions directed on the package insert.

Dramamine Dosage

Dosage of Dramamine should be obtained from your doctor. Dosage may vary from person to person with regards to a variety of factors, which include condition of the patients, age and others.

Dramamine Overdose

Do not take in more of Dramamine that what your doctor has instructed. If you have taken in more than you should, inform and your doctor and seek immediate medical attention or call poison control.

Symptoms of overdose include the following:

• Clumsiness or unsteadiness
• Convulsions
• Drowsiness
• Dryness of mouth, nose, or throat
• Feeling faint; flushing or redness of face
• Hallucinations
• Shortness of breath or troubled breathing
• Trouble in sleeping

Dramamine Missed Dose

Doses of Dramamine should not be missed. If a dose is missed, however, take it as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and take the subsequent dose according to schedule. Do not take a double dose of this medication unless otherwise instructed by your doctor.

Dramamine Side Effects

This product may have the following side effects:

• Fast or irregular heartbeat
• Fever
• Abdominal or stomach pain
• Burning; chills
• Clay-colored stools or dark urine
• Cough
• Diarrhea
• Difficulty swallowing
• Dizziness
• Fast heartbeat
• Fever
• Headache
• Hives
• Itching
• Prickly sensations
• Puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes

Dramamine may also have other side effects. Inform your doctor if you experience anything unusual while or after taking this drug.

Dramamine Drug Reactions

• Anticholinergics
• Erythromycin
• Ketoconazole
• Central nervous system (CNS) depressants
• Isocarboxid

This Drug may also interact with other drugs. Inform your doctor if you are taking any medication other than Dramamine.
