Orudis Information

Orudis is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, with antipyretic and analgesic properties, based on the action of its main active ingredient, ketoprofen. Its anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic properties have been clearly demonstrated by both animal and in vitro testing, due to its inhibitory action on prostaglandin and leukotriene synthesis, its antibradykinin and lysosomal membrane-stabilizing activity.

Orudis Indications

Orudis is a medicine mainly prescribed to relieve pain, tenderness, swelling and stiffness in the joints caused by rheumatoid arthritis and Osteoarthritis. Orudis can also be prescribed to relieve pain, including menstrual pain, minor aches and pain from headaches, toothaches, the common cold, muscle and backaches, and to reduce fever. Ketoprofen is included in a class of medication called NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), and it has an inhibitory action on the body's production of a substance causing pain, fever and inflammation.

Orudis Warnings

The heart attack and stroke risk in people taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Orudis may be higher than in people who are not taking these medications. There may not be a warning to these events, and may be lethal. This risk may be even higher in people who follow a long-term treatment with NSAIDs. You should tell your health care specialist if you or anyone in your family has a heart disease, heart attack or stroke medical history. You should also tell him if you smoke, have high cholesterol, high blood pressure or diabetes. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience chest pains, shortness of breath, weakness (in one side of the body) or slurred speech.
Usage of Orudis is not recommended right before or right after a coronary artery bypass graft.
The Ketoprofen in Orudis also may cause ulcers, bleeding or holes in the stomach or intestine. This can occur at any point during treatment, may be no warning to it and can possibly be lethal. The risk of this happening may be higher in people who follow a long-term treatment with NSAIDs, in older people, people with poor health condition or people who consume more than three alcoholic drinks per day.

Orudis Intake Guidelines

Follow the Orudis directions on the package and the doctor's indications carefully, and ask your health care specialist for further explanations as needed. Take Orudis exactly as directed. Do not in any way alter your dosage, either in quantity or by changing the intake schedule. It is recommended to accompany each dose with food or milk to reduce stomach upset. Your doctor may also advise you to take your dose of Orudis with an antacid to reduce stomach upset.

Orudis Overdose

If you suspect you are suffering from Orudis overdose, or experience any of the following:

• lack of energy
• drowsiness
• upset stomach
• vomiting
• stomach pain
• shallow breathing
• seizures
• coma

you should immediately seek medical assistance or call your local poison control center. Orudis overdose may be lethal.

Orudis Missed Dose

If you happen to miss one dose of Orudis, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for another dose.  Under no circumstances should you take a double dose to make up for the missed one.

Orudis Side Effects

There are some side effects to Orudis (Ketoprofen) treatment. Contact your doctor if you experience:

• constipation
• diarrhea
• sores in the mouth
• headaches
• nervousness
• drowsiness
• dizziness
• ringing in the ears
• difficulty falling or staying asleep
• changes in vision
• rapid and continuous gain in weight
• fever
• blisters
• itching
• rashes
• hives
• swelling of various body parts
• difficulty breathing or swallowing
• hoarseness
• excessive tiredness
• unusual bleeding or bruising
• loss of energy
• loss of appetite
• upset stomach
• pain in the upper right part of the stomach
• yellowing of the skin or eyes
• flu-like symptoms
• pale skin
• fast heartbeat
• cloudy, discolored or bloody urine
• difficult or painful urination
• back pain

There may be other side effects to Orudis treatment. It is recommended that you contact your doctor as soon as you experience any unexpected effects to investigate the causes and take the appropriate course of action.

Orudis Drug Reactions

You are advised to tell your doctor if you usually consume large quantities of alcohol or if you follow treatment with any of the following: anticoagulants (such as warfarin), aspirin, other NSAIDs (for example ibuprofen or naproxen) or oral steroids (methylprednisolone, prednisone). Also you should inform your health care specialist if you have or have had any medical history of ulcers or bleeding in the stomach and intestines, or other bleeding disorders. Immediately stop Orudis treatment and call your doctor if you experience any of the following: stomach pain, heart burn, vomiting a bloody substance or one with an aspect like coffee grounds, blooded or black and tarry stools.
