MIDAMOR (Amiloride Hydrochloride)

Midamor Information

Midamor is a fluid tablet or diuretic. Midamor may be taken alone, but often times Midamor is taken with other diuretics. When used with other diuretics, Midamor may help reduce the amount of fluid in the body. Midamor also helps maintain normal levels of potassium in your blood. Midamor works by making the kidney pass more salt and water, and thus, retain more potassium.

Midamor Indications

Midamor is indicated for the treatment of amount of fluid in the body especially to patients with Edema and ascites due to liver disease.

Your doctor may prescribe Midamor for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Midamor Warnings

Before taking Midamor tell your doctor if you have medical conditions especially the following:

• Diabetes mellitus
• Liver disease
• Heart disease
• Lung disease
• Kidney disease

Do not take Midamor if you are allergic to its active ingredient or any of its inactive ingredients.

Do not take Midamor if you have naturally high levels of potassium in your blood.

Do not take Midamor if you are pregnant or if you think you are pregnant or planning for pregnancy. Discuss with your doctor about Midamor and how it might affect pregnancy.

It is not known whether Midamor passes into the breast milk or not. Midamor is not recommended for use if you are breast-feeding an infant.

The safety of Midamor in children has not been established.

Midamor Intake Guidelines

Take each dose of Midamor with a full glass of water.

Try taking each dose of Midamor at the same time each day.

Do not take more of Midamor and do not take Midamor than your doctor ordered.

If you are taking more than one dose every day, take the last dose in no later than 6 p.m. unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Midamor Dosage

Take Midamor exactly as prescribed by your doctor or as directed in the package. If you have any problems understanding it, ask your doctor about it. Your doctor will tell you how many tablets you need to take each day.

If you are using Midamor alone, the usual dose is two tablets everyday. The daily dose may be taken as a single dose or in divided doses.

When Midamor is taken together with other diuretics, the dose depends on your condition;

For high blood pressure: one or two tablets a day.

For Edema: one or two tablets a day.

For the swelling associated with liver disease: the starting dose is one tablet a day.

Midamor Overdose

If you suspect an overdose of Midamor, immediately call the Poison Control Center or go to the nearest accident and emergency at your nearest hospital. Do this even if there are no signs of discomfort or poisoning.

Taking too many tablets may result to the following:

• Confusion
• Light-headedness
• Dizziness
• Excessive thirst

Midamor Missed Dose

Take the missed dose of Midamor as soon as you remember. Taking the missed dose as soon as possible might mean that you take 2 tablets if it is almost time for you next regularly scheduled dose. Then return to your regular dosing schedule of taking Midamor. Furthermore, use barrier method during the first 7 days of taking Midamor. The more you miss your daily doses of Midamor, the higher the risks of pregnancy.

Midamor Side Effects

Along with the needed effects, Midamor also have unwanted adverse effects. Tell your doctor if side effects occur.

Tell your doctor if you notice any of the following mild adverse effects of Midamor:

• nausea
• loss of appetite
• stomach pain
• wind
• dizziness
• headache

Tell your doctor if you experience any of the following serious side effects of Midamor:

• muscle cramps
• weakness
• skin rash, itching
• shortness of breath
• changes in the way your heart beats
• yellowing of the skin and eyes or jaundice
• numbness or tingling in the hands or feet

Tell your doctor immediately or go to the accident and emergency at your nearest hospital if you notice any of the following:

• chest pain or tightness
• vomiting blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
• bleeding from the back passage, black, sticky bowel motions (stools) or bloody diarrhea

This may be very serious adverse side effects and are very rare. You may need urgent medical attention.

Side effects other than those listed in this medication guide may also occur. Talk to your doctor if side effects that seem unusual or especially bothersome occur.

Midamor Drug Reactions

Do not take other medicines unless they have been discussed with your doctor. Talk to your doctor before using any medicines or any over-the-counter medicines. Midamor and some medicines may interfere with each other. Tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

• potassium tablets or other potassium-conserving medicines
• lithium
• ACE inhibitors
• angiotensin II receptor antagonists
• non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines
• other fluid tablets
• cyclosporine
• tacrolimus
• immunosupressive agents
