Proscar Indications

The main usage of Proscar is to treat cases of enlarged prostate (also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia, in scientific terms). Treatment with this drug can also be employed to treat hair loss, baldness or male pattern baldness. Proscar Warnings

Proscar is a male only medicine, and therefore there is no reason for it to be prescribed to or taken by women. Pregnant women in particular should avoid all contact with the drug, as it can be absorbed by the skin and can cause birth defects on an unborn baby. Any kind of contact can be hazardous, especially if the Proscar pill has been crushed or broken, as in this state it can more easily pass through the skin.
Special care should be employed when the patient following Finasteride treatment has history of liver disease. Please make sure your personal health care specialist is aware of any liver condition that you may have, or have had in the past, as this situation calls for an altered dosage and special monitoring during treatment. There are no restrictions on food or beverage consumption while following treatment with this drug.

Proscar Intake Guidelines

Talk to your personal health care specialist and set up a regular intake schedule for your Proscar treatment, and follow it closely. He should also supply with a detailed list of intake guidelines, and if you have trouble understanding any of the intake guidelines, please ask your doctor, a pharmacist or a nurse to help you clarify them. Proscar Dosage

Under no circumstances should you self medicate. Proscar Overdose

There have been no studied cases of Finasteride overdose, but if you have reasons to suspect that you are suffering from one, immediately consult your personal health care specialist or go to the nearest hospital to seek emergency medical attention. The exact symptoms of Proscar overdose have not yet been established, so almost any type of effects can come with an overdose with this drug, most likely with serious – and possibly even lethal – consequences.

Proscar Missed Dose

You should always remember to take Proscar as scheduled. Should you ever happen to miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for another intake. If it is almost time for another intake, it is better to entirely skip that dose and continue with the regular intake schedule. Never take a double dose of this drug to make up for a lost one. It is advised that you let your personal health care specialist know about any doses you may have missed, as he could decide to modify your dosage or intake schedule depending on the number of missed doses and the usual dosage.

Proscar Side Effects

There are a few side effects associated with Proscar treatment. Some of the more serious are allergic reactions, such as hives, closed throat, breathing difficulties, swellings of the tongue, lips or mouth. Should you experience any of these, immediately seek medical attention at the nearest hospital. Other side effects may appear as well when following Proscar treatment: a decrease in sex drive, a decrease in the volume of ejaculation, impotence or enlarged breasts. Other effects may appear as well, so if you notice anything unusual and suspect it’s related to your Proscar treatment, immediately contact your personal health care specialist.

Proscar Drug Reactions

To this point, there have been no cases in which Proscar interacted with other commonly used drugs. However, it is best that you let your personal health care specialist know about any other drugs, vitamins, minerals or nutritional supplements you are currently taking before starting the treatment, as there may be some circumstances where Proscar dosage needs to be adjusted, or special monitoring needs to be employed during the treatment.
