Prozac is a popular antidepressant that belongs to a wide group of medicines that are generally known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. This medicine is known to affect some of the brain’s chemicals that can trigger anxiety, depression, panic or obsessive-compulsive behavior.

It has been clearly determined that this medicine’s ingredients are able to pass into the patient’s breast milk. Do not use this product if you are currently nursing an infant. Ask your personal physician for advice. 

Before you start a treatment with Prozac, you should alert your personal health care provider if you are suffering from known allergies to any of this medicine’s components or if you have:

• liver cirrhosis;
• kidney disorder;
• diabetes;
• epilepsy or other seizure disorders;
• bipolar disease;
• a history of suicidal thoughts or drug abuse.

Under these circumstances, you might not be allowed to start taking this medicine or you might have to be prescribed a lower dose of Prozac. Your personal physician might also want to closely monitor your intake of this medicine.

Prozac Intake Guidelines

Ask your personal physician to explain to you exactly how you should take this medicine. You must not disobey any of your physician’s instructions. This medicine’s effects might not appear during the first month of your treatment with this medicine. If you think that you might be suffering from an overdose with this medicine you should alert your local poison control centre and your doctor at once. The average symptoms that are triggered by an overdose with Prozac include: vomiting, seizures, nausea, sleepiness, fever, confusion, uneven or rapid heartbeat, fainting, or coma.

Prozac Missed Dose

If you miss one of you doses of Prozac, you should take it as soon as you recall. If it is time for another prescribed dose of this product, you should skip the dose that you have missed and proceed with your regular treatment. Do not double dose without your doctor’s consent.

Prozac Side Effects

If you experience any allergic reaction symptoms you should seek medical care at once. Alert your personal physician as soon as possible if you develop any of these severe side effects:

• shivering, tremors, muscle twitching or stiffness;
• seizure (convulsions);
• a peeling, blistering, red skin rash;
• problems with balance or coordination; or
• sweating, confusion, agitation, fast heartbeat.

A treatment with Prozac could also trigger other less severe (but more commonly experienced) side effects like:

• dizziness, drowsiness, weakness;
• sore throat, runny nose, flu symptoms, headache;
• diarrhea, nausea, changes in appetite;
• impotence, decreased sex drive, or problems having an orgasm;
• weight changes;
• increased sweating, dry mouth.

Prozac Drug Reactions

During your treatment with Prozac you must not take any of these drugs:

• alprazolam;
• clozapine;
• digitoxin;
• flecainide;
• haloperidol;
• seizure medication;
• tryptophan;
• vinblastine;
• blood thinners;
