Caverject Information

Caverject is a popular medicine that is widely known for its ability to cause an erection. This drug achieves its goal by gradually increasing the regular amount of blood that naturally flows into the patient’s penis. This medicine also decreases the amount of blood that would regularly flow out of the patient’s penis. Caverject can also relax the muscles and the blood vessels in the patient’s penis.

Caverject Indications

Caverject is mainly used in the treatment and in the diagnosis of some types of erectile dysfunction and impotence. However, this medicine might also be prescribed to prevent or to treat some other medical disorders that have not been listed here. Ask your personal physician for more information.  

Caverject Warnings

You should not start a prolonged treatment with Caverject if you are suffering from any of the following medical disorders:

• Sickle cell anemia
• A bone marrow tumor (this disease is also widely known under the name of multiple myeloma)
• leukemia
• A penile curvature or deformation
• A penile implant
• Penile fibrosis

If you are suffering from any of the medical conditions that have been listed here, you might not be allowed to start taking this medicine, or you might have to be prescribed a lower dose of Caverject. Your personal healthcare provider might also want to closely monitor your treatment with this medicine to see how your organism copes with the medicine.

Children and women should never use Caverject under any circumstances. During a sexual intercourse, the patient (male) who is following a treatment with Caverject should wear a condom in order to prevent transferring some of this drug’s main ingredients to his partner.

Caverject Intake Guidelines

Ask your doctor how and when you should use Caverject in order to get the best results from your treatment. You must not disobey any of the instructions that your doctor has given you. If you fail to understand any of them, you should address a pharmacist, a doctor or a nurse. You ought to store this drug away from heat and moisture. It is recommended that you keep this medicine away from direct sunlight and from the reach of pets and children (in order to avoid potentially dangerous accidents like poisoning).

Caverject should not be administered more than 3 times a week. It is highly recommended that between 2 administrations of this medicine there should be at least a 24 hour time interval. This medicine may be injected straight to the patient’s penis or it may be inserted at the penis’ urethra. Ask your personal physician on what is the best (suitable) form of administration in your particular case. You must not reuse a needle or a syringe. If your erection lasted for more than 4 hours you must alert your personal physician at once, as this might have dangerous consequences on your penis.  

Caverject Dosage

Caverject Overdose

If you suspect that you might be suffering from an overdose with Caverject, you are probably in need of medical care as soon as possible. Contact your local poison control center as soon as you can. Alert your personal doctor immediately. If necessary, go to the local emergency centre. An overdose of Caverject could trigger some of these symptoms:

• Prolonged erection
• Low blood pressure (dizziness, facial flushing or fainting).

Caverject Missed Dose

Because Caverject is regularly used only when it is needed, a missed dose of this medicine is highly unlikely to occur.  

Caverject Side Effects

Prolonged usage of Caverject could trigger some of the following severe allergic reactions and side effects:

• Difficulty in breathing
• Swelling of the face, tongue or lips
• Closing of the throat
• Painful and prolonged erection
• Hives
• Redness, lumps, swelling, curvature or tenderness of the erect penis
• Fainting
• Severe penile pain

If you are experiencing any of these severe (and dangerous) side effects you must stop using Caverject at once. Alert your personal physician as soon as possible.
Caverject can also trigger other less severe (but more common) side effects that usually include:

• Penile numbness, pain or itching
• Penile redness, warmth or swelling
• Injection site burning, pain or swelling
• Headache or dizziness
• Testicular pain
• Changes in vision

If you experience any of these less severe side effects you may continue using this product, but you should inform your personal physician nevertheless. Caverject might also trigger some other side effects that have not been listed here. If you experience anything unusual or bothersome while or shortly after using this medicine you should alert your personal healthcare provider.

Caverject Drug Reactions

Caverject is known to harmfully interact with blood-thinning drugs such as warfarin, ardeparin, heparin, danaparin, dalteparin, or Enoxaparin. These medicines are known to sometimes increase the risk of bleeding, especially at the Caverject injection site. This medicine is also known to react with cyclosporine.
