Zymafluor Information

Zymafluor is a prophylactic supplement containing Sodium Fluoride, which helps strengthening tooth enamel thus preventing the formation of dental cavities. It may be employed along with other oral hygiene methods (such as brushing or flossing your teeth) and prophylactic measures. However, this product does not offer a 100% guarantee against the formation of dental cavities.

Zymafluor Indications

Typically, Zymafluor is prescribed as a prophylactic agent in the prevention of dental decay in patients that regularly consume water containing low levels of fluoride, or in patients that undergo medical procedures such as head or neck radiation therapy, which may increase the individual’s susceptibility of developing dental cavities.

Zymafluor Warnings

It is recommended that Zymafluor is not prescribed to patients that regularly consume water with a high concentration of fluoride (over 0.7 parts per million). Patients who also follow a low salt diet or those that undergo a salt-free therapy course may not be able to start a treatment with this product, or special medical attention may be required for the duration of the therapy.

This product should not be taken with calcium supplements, with milk or other dairy products, as calcium may interfere with the fluoride absorption in the organism. Also, antacids should be avoided for the duration of the therapy as some of these contain calcium. If you need to follow a treatment course with antacids as well during Zymafluor therapy, you should ask your personal physician to give you a list of antacids that do not contain calcium.

Zymafluor Intake Guidelines

Zymafluor should be taken constantly, closely following the indications given by the prescribing health care professional in order to obtain the most benefit from the therapy. You should not take this product with milk or other dairy products, although you may take it with water or with foods with low or no calcium.

If you have difficulties understanding the intake guidelines prescribed by the examining physician, you should ask for further explanations from a doctor, a nurse or a pharmacist. It is important that you do not exceed the Zymafluor prescribed dosage, and that you do not continue taking this product for longer than prescribed.

Zymafluor Dosage

The Zymafluor dosage that is prescribed to an individual is likely to be different than the dosages prescribed in other cases. Zymafluor Overdose

The main ingredient of Zymafluor, Sodium Fluoride, is lethal in concentrations of around 5 to 10 grams for a human weighing 70 kg. In lower concentrations, it may cause adverse reactions manifested through stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, tingling or numbness, drooling, stiffness of the muscles or convulsions. There may be other symptoms as well for an overdose with Zymafluor. In case you take larger doses of this product or have other reasons to suspect an overdose, you are advised to contact the local poisons center or your personal health care professional. In severe cases, the patient should be taken to the nearest medical facility in order to receive emergency medical attention.

Zymafluor Missed Dose

It is recommended that the Zymafluor doses are taken at the same time every day, in order to reduce the chances of missing any doses. If you do miss a dose, you are advised to take it when you remember, unless it is less than two hours from the next Zymafluor scheduled dose. In such situations you are advised to completely skip the missed dose and take the next one on time. You should never take a double dose of this product.

Zymafluor Side Effects

There are several side effects that may occur as a result of Zymafluor therapy. Among the most severe, allergic reactions manifested through hives, swelling of the face, lips or tongue, breathing difficulties or rashes may occur. If you happen to experience any signs of an allergic reaction, you should stop taking this product immediately and address your personal health care professional.

In rare cases, you may experience a discoloration of your teeth or other changes in their appearance, or your tooth enamel may become weakened. It is highly recommended that you seek the advice of your personal physician as soon as possible if you experience any of these.

Other Zymafluor side effects may occur as well. These may be less severe (such as temporary stomach upset, unusual weakness or headaches) and will typically go away in time. However, if these side effects become bothersome or persistent, it is recommended to bring the matter to the attention of your personal physician.

Zymafluor Drug Reactions

In some cases, Zymafluor may interact with other drugs and medications. In order to prevent any accidental drug interactions, you should let the prescribing health care professional know of any other medical products and nutritional supplements you are taking before starting a therapy with Zymafluor. You should avoid as much as possible taking this medication along with calcium supplements, calcium-rich foods and products or antacids containing calcium, as calcium may hinder the fluoride absorption in the organism.
