Cepacaine Information

Cepacaine is an anesthetic lozenge. It contains the following ingredients:

• Cetylpyridinium chloride
• Benzocaine

Cepacaine is considered as a surface anesthetic that comes as a hard green candy lozenge.

Cepacaine Indications

Cepacaine is indicated for the relief of sore throat. Cepacaine works by inhibiting the bactericidal and fungicidal activities that are causing the irritation of the throat and other mouth infections.

Cepacaine Warnings

Cepacaine is not recommended for children under 6 years old.

If a sore throat persists for more than two days of Cepacaine intake and is accompanied by fever and chills, headache, nausea and vomiting, consult your doctor immediately as it may indicate a more serious illness.

Watch out for CNS excitation manifested by excitement, nervousness, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, depression, yawning, restlessness and other CNS excitements.

If the patient is epileptic, administer Cepacaine with caution.

Cepacaine contains Benzocaine and should be administered with caution to patients with low plasma cholinesterase concentrations and for patients who are on anticholinesterases. In many instances, the taking of Cepacaine in these patients is strictly prohibited.

The safety of Cepacaine for use in pregnant women and nursing mothers has not yet been established. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, consult your doctor first before deciding to take Cepacaine.

Cepacaine should also be given with caution to patients with respiratory problems such as asthma. It should also be given with caution to patients with liver diseases, cardiac impairment and for epileptics.

Cepacaine Intake Guidelines

Cepacaine is an oral lozenge. It is not to be chewed or fully swallowed with water.
Cepacaine should be slowly dissolved in the mouth and should be swallowed along with the saliva so that it can be absorbed on the throat.

Cepacaine can be taken every two hours or as prescribed by your doctor.

Cepacaine Dosage

Follow your doctor’s instructions regarding the dosage. One lozenge of Cepacaine is usually taken every two hours.

Cepacaine Overdose

The symptoms of overdose include:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Paralysis of respiratory muscles
• Convulsion
• Hypotension
• Coma
• Central nervous system depression

If overdose is suspected and if any of these symptoms is present, seek emergency medical attention immediately.

Cepacaine Missed Dose

If you happen to miss a dose of Cepacaine, take one as soon as needed or as soon as you remember provided that you maintain and observe the hour intervals.

Cepacaine Side Effects

Mucous membranes and the area where Cepacaine was dissolved may become irritated after a prolonged exposure to Cepacaine.

Other side effects include:

• Restlessness
• Excitement
• Vomiting
• Dizziness
• Tinnitus
• Blurred vision
• Depression
• Hypotension
• Arrythmias
• Cardiac arrest

If you experience these side effects or any of them and they become intolerable and bothersome, stop taking Cepacaine and ask your doctor for medical advice.

Cepacaine Drug Reactions

Always tell your doctor of the drugs you are currently taking or have taken in the past week as they may have interactions with Cepacaine and its ingredients that may be harmful to the body.
