Do not use this medicine (Stalevo) without your physician’s approval if you are pregnant or if you are nursing an infant. During your treatment with this medicine you should employ extra caution when operating machinery, driving, or performing any other type of hazardous activities, as an intake of this drug could trigger drowsiness and / or dizziness.

You should not start using Stalevo without your physician’s approval if you are suffering from:

• narrow-angle glaucoma;
• malignant melanoma;
• heart disease, including irregular heartbeat, hardening of the arteries, high blood pressure, a heart attack, and so on;
• respiratory disease;
• kidney disease;
• liver disease;
• bile duct obstruction;
• an endocrine disorder;
• wide-angle glaucoma;
• an intestinal or stomach ulcer;
• depression.

Stalevo Intake Guidelines

Each patient should ask their personal health care specialist to give them a set of precise instructions regarding their future intake of Stalevo. You must not disobey any of the instructions that your personal physician has prescribed you. If you somehow did not completely understand some of the directions that your doctor has given you, we advise you to should ask a nurse or a pharmacist for further and more detailed explanations. In case you want to know more about this medicine you should read the drug’s label.

Each dose of Stalevo should be accompanied by a full glass of liquid (juice or water). Avoid crushing, breaking or chewing a tablet of this medicine as you should take it as a whole. A treatment with this medicine works in time (in some cases, its benefic effects are seen only after weeks of intake). Do not stop using Stalevo without first consulting it with your personal health care specialist, as this could trigger severe effects.

In order to get the most benefits from your intake of Stalevo you should use your doses of this medicine on a regular basis. During your treatment with Stalevo, you will probably have to undergo regular medical exams (especially blood tests) in order for your personal physician to monitor the treatment’s effects.

Stalevo Overdose

If you think that you might be suffering from an overdose with this medical product we strongly advise you to seek medical care as soon as you can. You should alert your personal physician and your local poison control centre at once. If possible, go to the nearest emergency room in order to receive a proper medical treatment for your condition. Patients who are suffering from overdose with this medicine (Stalevo) are likely to develop muscle weakness or spasms, hallucinations, eyelid spasms, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, irregular heartbeat, agitation, confusion, and unconsciousness.

Stalevo Missed Dose

If you miss one of your scheduled doses of Stalevo we strongly recommend you to take it as soon as you can. However, if it is time for another dose, forget about the one that you have missed and continue your regular dosing treatment. Avoid using double doses of this medicine (Stalevo) without your personal physician’s approval.

Stalevo Side Effects

A prolonged treatment with Stalevo could trigger a series of severe side effects. You should stop your treatment with this medicine at once and alert your personal physician as soon as possible if you start to experience:

• symptoms of an allergic reaction (closing of your throat; hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of the tongue, lips, or face);
• uncontrollable movements of a body part;
• seizures;
• fever;
• severe vomiting, nausea, or diarrhea;
• fluttering in the chest;
• an irregular heartbeat;
• hallucinations;
• unusual behavior or mood changes;
• suicidal thoughts or depression.

A treatment with Stalevo could also trigger some other, less severe (but more common) side effects such as:

• mild vomiting, nausea, or decreased appetite;
• dry mouth, constipation, or blurred vision;
• muscle twitches;
• hand tremor;
• drowsiness or dizziness;
• confusion, insomnia, or nightmares;
• anxiety or agitation;
• darkening of sweat, urine, or saliva;
• fatigue.

Stalevo Drug Reactions

You should ask your personal physician if you may start using Stalevo if you have recently taken any MAOI like phenelzine (Nardil), isocarboxazid (Marplan), or tranylcypromine (Parnate), as this could lead to severe drug interactions. 

Before you start to follow a treatment with Stalevo you should inform your personal health care specialist if you are currently using any of these drugs:

• antacids;
• metoclopramide (Reglan);
• iron supplements;
• phenytoin (Dilantin);
• isoniazid (Nydrazid);
• cholestyramine (Prevalite, Questran, Locholest);
• probenecid (Benemid);
• rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane);
• erythromycin (E-Mycin, Ery-Tab, Eryc, E.E.S., PCE Dispertab, and others);
• ampicillin (Totacillin, Principen, Omnipen, and others);
• a tricyclic antidepressant such as doxepin (Sinequan), amitriptyline (Elavil), desipramine (Norpramin), nortriptyline (Pamelor), amoxapine (Asendin), and others; 
• a medicine that treats hypertension;
• a medicine that is required in the treatment of psychiatric medical conditions such as prochlorperazine (Compazine), chlorpromazine (Thorazine), fluphenazine (Prolixin), promethazine (Phenergan), thioridazine (Mellaril), mesoridazine (Serentil), risperidone (Risperdal), trifluoperazine (Stelazine), or haloperidol (Haldol).
