Certican Information

Certican is a drug that is normally used in the treatment of patients who have had heart or kidney transplants, because it is extremely effective in helping prevent the patient’s organism from rejecting the transplant. This medicine’s active ingredient is everolimus. It is known to belong to a wide class of drugs called immunosuppresants.

You might not be allowed to take this medicine if you are allergic to:
• Everolimus (this is this drug’s active ingredient)
• any other of Certican’s ingredients
• Rapamune (a similar drug that has the same active ingredient sirolimus) or any other substances (such as dyes, preservatives, food, etc).
The average allergic reaction symptoms are known to sometimes include breath shortness, breathing difficulties, wheezing; swelling of the lips, face, tongue or other body parts; rash, hives or skin itching.
Before you start taking this medicine  
You should inform your personal physician if you are suffering from any of these disorders:
• Liver problems
• High cholesterol
Alert your personal physician if you are pregnant or if you are planning to become pregnant any time soon because Certican should not be taken during pregnancy (a treatment with this medicine could harm a growing fetus). It has not been established whether this drug’s ingredients are able to pass into breast milk. However, you should ask your personal physician if it is safe to take this medicine if you are breastfeeding an infant.  
Alert your personal physician if you are suffering from Lactose intolerance, because some Certican dispersible pills (tablets) are known to contain lactose.

Certican Intake Guidelines

Certican comes in two different tablet types. The tablets should be swallowed as a whole. The dispersible pills should be dissolved in water and then taken in. Read the drug’s package to see if you have bought the tablets (regular pills) or the dispersible tablets.

The correct dose of Certican varies from one patient to another. Ask your doctor to determine the dose of this medicine that suits you best or follow the instructions on the drug’s label.
Certican tablets:
• They must be swallowed as a whole (accompany them with a glass of water).
• Avoid crushing and chewing them.
• You should not mix these tablets with grapefruit juice.
The dispersible tablets:
• They should be dissolved in 25 mL of water
• If your prescribed dose is higher than 1.5 mg, you ought to add an extra amount of 25 mL of water
• The pills should disintegrate in about 2 minutes
• Gently shake the recipient
• Add 25 mL of water and drink the mixture
• You should not mix these tablets with grapefruit juice.
You should not stop your treatment with this medicine without your physician’s consent even if you start to feel better after a few days.

Certican Dosage

The average starting dose of this medicine consists of 0.75 mg that should be taken twice per day. Your doctor should monitor the amount of Certican from your blood (through regular blood tests).
Certican should be taken twice per day. It is recommended that you take your prescribed doses of this medicine 12 hours apart from each other (preferably at the same time every day).

Certican Missed Dose

In order to get the maximum benefits from your treatment with Certican, you should take it on a regular basis (two doses per day). If you happen to miss a dose of this drug, you should take it as soon as you remember. If it is about time for another dose, skip the one that you have missed and continue your treatment. Avoid taking other doses of this medicine without your physician’s approval. If you have missed more than one dose of this medicine, you should ask your physician for further instructions.

Certican Side Effects

Alert your personal physician or your local pharmacist at once if you feel ill during you treatment with Certican.  
Alert your physician if you experience any of these side effects:
• General pain, muscle weakness and tenderness
• Abdominal pain
• Acne
• Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting
If you experience any of these side effects, alert your physician at once:
• Swelling of hands, limbs or feet (this is probably due to abnormal fluid retention)
• allergic reactions such as breath shortness, wheezing or breathing difficulties; swelling of the face, tongue, lips or other body parts; itching, rash or hives
• burning sensation during urination
• flu-like symptoms such as chills, fever, sore throat, swollen glands, aching joints,  cough, or any other infection symptoms
• new moles or lumps
• unusual bruising or bleeding
• tiredness, headaches, breath shortness during exercise, pale skin, dizziness

There are other side effects that have not been listed here that might occur. Inform your doctor if you experience anything unusual during your treatment with Certican.
