Cortenema is a medicine that belongs to a wide class of drugs also known as rectal corticosteroids. This type of medicines is used to in the treatment of moderate and mild Ulcerative Colitis. This medicine can also be combined with systemic (injection or oral) corticosteroids or some other drugs in order to treat some severe diseases or mild to moderate disorders that have spread too much and they cannot be effectively treated by inserting the drug into the rectum. Such rectal corticosteroids are also used in order to prevent swelling, discomfort and itching, in some rectal disorders (such as rectum inflammation and Hemorrhoids).

Allergies— You should inform your personal doctor if you are suffering from allergic reactions to corticosteroids or to any other substances such as dyes, preservatives or food.
Pregnancy— This medicine is known to change the ability of movement and the number of sperm (when prescribed to a male patient). Cortenema’s main ingredient (Budesonide) is known to cross the placenta. Animal studies have shown that a treatment with this medicine during pregnancy can and does cause birth defects. You should ask for your physician’s approval to start taking this medicine if you are pregnant or if you are planning to be so soon (you might have to take in a lower dose of this medicine).
Breast-feeding—It is has not been determined if this drug’s ingredients can pass into breastmilk. However, you should ask your personal doctor if it is safe to start a treatment with Cortenema if you are breastfeeding an infant.
Children— Teenagers and children should not be given this medicine without a pediatrician’s approval.
