Colifoam Information

One of the active ingredients of Colifoam is Hydrocortisone. Hydrocortisone is characterized to a group of medicines known as corticosteroids that is mainly used to reduce inflammation.

The affected area of the skin (Irritation of the membrane) causes the release of substances that dilates blood vessels that will eventually make the area red, swollen and painful. The skin then absorbs Colifoam. It works by allowing the blood vessels to return to its normal state. It will then reduce the pain and discomfort. When the medicine is led into the back-passage (rectum), the discomfort of the inflammation will be minimized.

Colifoam Indications

Colifoam is to treat inflammation of the bowel and back passage (Ulcerative Colitis); rectum (proctitis); lower colon (procotosigmoiditis).

Colifoam Warnings

Prolonged usage of Colifoam should be avoided. Colifoam not used immediately can be harmful for the patient.

Young children should not be allowed to use this for this can be harmful to them.

If you have symptoms of Ulcerative Colitis, Colifoam should not be used. Consult your doctor right away. Ulcerative Colitis is an inflammation of the large intestine, which will result in ulceration and bleeding. Symptoms could be alternating periods with no or few symptoms, and periods with frequent stomach pains and diarrhea that is mixed with pus, blood and mucus.

Do not use Colifoam if you have: An Abnormal opening between the bowel and another structure in the abdomen (fistula); Blockage of the bowel (bowel obstruction); Damage to the bowel; Infection.

If you have a medical history of allergic reaction, please talk to your doctor. If an outbreak of allergic reaction occurs while you are using Colifoam, stop applying the medicine and talk to you doctor immediately.

Certain Medicines should not be used for expecting mothers or pregnant women or nursing mothers. However, some medicines can be used for pregnant women or nursing mothers, if and only if the risk of the infant is minimal and the safety of both mom and the child is guaranteed.

Pregnant Women should not use Colifoam for it may harm the unborn fetus. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant before using Colifoam.

Though there are no reports if Colifoam is harmful for the nursing infant but it is best for Nursing Women to consult a doctor for verification. The manufacturer also advised that it is best not to use Colifoam when nursing or breast feeding to avoid risking the health of the infant.

Colifoam Application Instructions

Apply Colifoam according to your doctor’s instructions. Never attempt to deviate from your doctor’s instructions.

Do not change the dosage without advising the doctor.

Store Colifoam at room temperature away from heat and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Colifoam Dosage

Always observe your doctor’s prescribed dosage and never attempt to prescribe a dosage for your self.

Colifoam Overdose

There are no recorded symptoms of overdose. However, if overdose is suspected, seek medical attention immediately.

Colifoam Missed Dose

If you happen to miss a time for application, apply Colifoam as soon as you remember. If it is almost time the next scheduled dosage, skip the missed dose and take the next one. Do not double dose Colifoam.

Colifoam Side Effects

Side Effects of taking Colifoam include:

• Irritation of the area of application
• Decreased functioning of the adrenal gland (adrenal suppression)

Side Effects above may not be true to all. Other side effects may also be likely to occur aside from the ones listed above and if you experience side effects and if they become intolerable or bothersome, contact your doctor right away.
