Zymar Information

Zymar (also known as Gatifloxacin) is an antibiotic remedy. A treatment trial with this medication is widely used by patients who are suffering from bacterial infections of one or both of their eyes (which may be caused by various types of pathogens).

Zymar Indications

It is especially recommended in the case of patients who are suffering from bacterial conjunctivitis which can be caused by strains of some organisms, such as: Aerobic Gram-Positive Bacteria, Corynebacterium propinquum, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus mitis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Aerobic Gram-Negative Bacteria and Haemophilus influenzae. Zymar Warnings

Patients should not use Zymar, if they are suffering from a viral or fungal eye infection, because this medicine is used only in the treatment of bacterial eye infections. Patients should not use this medicine if they have had an allergic reaction to it or to other eye products.

Pregnant women should not use Zymar, because it can be harmful for the unborn baby. They should discuss this problem with their doctor or personal health care provider. It is not known yet if Zymar passes into breast milk, this is why it is important to discuss the risks of a therapy with this medicine with your doctor if you are breast-feeding.

The patients are recommended not to touch the dropper of Zymar’s bottle to the eyes or hands, as the dropper is sterile and if it is touched it can become contaminated and could cause serious eye infections. The patients who are wearing contact lenses should discuss with their doctor if they are allowed to wear them or not during the treatment period.

Zymar Intake Guidelines

Patients should ask their doctor how to take each dose of Zymar. Individuals are recommended to remember all the instructions the doctor gave them in order to make sure that their treatment trial with this clinical remedy will improve their current medical condition. If they have questions about the treatment and the medicine that they are taking, they should ask their personal healthcare provider or pharmacist.

Patients should wash their hands very well, before using these eye drops. The patients who are wearing contact lenses should remove them before using Zymar drops. In order to apply the eye drops, patients should shake the drops in order for the medicine to be well mixed, pull down on the lower eyelid and then apply the eye drops. This medicine should be stored at the room temperature and should be kept away from moisture and heat.

Zymar Overdose

If the patients believe that they have taken an overdose with Zymar they should immediately announce their doctor and the local poison control centre. It might be necessary to remain in the hospital in order to be treated for the overdose, but this depends on the doctor’s examination. Usually an overdose of Zymar is not life threatening, but if the patients suspect an overdose or if they ingested the eye drops, they should call the emergency room or their personal healthcare provider.

Zymar Missed Dose

Patients should try to take each dose of Zymar as their doctor told them, but in the cases in which they forget to take one dose and it is almost time for the next one, they should proceed with the next dose and then with their regular schedule. Patients must not take double doses of this medicine, unless their doctor tells them to do so.

Zymar Side Effects

In the majority of the cases no severe side effects have been reported during one’s treatment with Zymar. Here is a list with the most common side effects which the persons who are under treatment with Zymar may experience: eye burning, stinging, itching, redness, tearing, irritation, blurred vision, swelling of the eyelid, itching of the eyelid, bad taste in the mouth, eye pain, eye dryness, headaches. Patients should inform their doctor if any of these side effects persists or worsens. Patients should alert their physician if they experience persistent eye redness, swelling of the eye and eyelid. Seek immediate medical attention in the case of an allergic reaction. The symptoms of an allergic reaction include the following: rash, itching, swelling, breathing problems, and dizziness.

Most of the patients who have been experiencing side effects from this medicine have reported conjunctival irritation, increased lacrimation, chemosis, reduced visual acuity, taste disturbance and papillary conjunctivitis. Zymar Drug Reactions

During the treatment with Zymar, patients are recommended not to use other eye drops or medication, unless they had previously discussed it with their doctor or personal healthcare provider.
