ALBALON

ALBALON

Albalon Information

Albalon is a medicine available under the form of eye drops. Its main ingredient, Nephazoline ophthalmic, is recognized for its strong positive effect in reducing eye irritation and itching, and for the prompt constriction of the eye blood vessels.

Albalon Indications

Under normal circumstances, Albalon is typically employed in the treatment of patients suffering from minor irritations of one or both eyes caused by sun, wind or other such factors. This medicine may be used to relieve symptoms such as irritation, itching, burning, redness and dryness of the eyes, however the examining health care professional may decide to prescribe this medication for the treatment of other medical affections as well. If you are not sure why you have received a prescription for this drug, you may consult your prescribing health care specialist to obtain further information.

Albalon Warnings

Albalon should not be used to treat patients that are allergic to this medicine or to any of its components. In the case you experience an allergic reaction to this medicine, it is strongly advised to discontinue the treatment and contact your personal health care professional.

Patients suffering from glaucoma may only use Albalon under the direct supervision of their personal health care professional. This drug may not be recommended to patients that are suffering from diabetes, asthma, thyroid affections or any type of heart and circulatory system problems. If you are suffering from any of the above, you should consult with your personal health care specialist before starting treatment with this medicine.

Patients that are wearing contact lenses should take them off before receiving an application of Albalon, and will need to consult with their ophthalmologist to find out if they may reinsert the lenses after using this medicine. One of the ingredients of Albalon (namely benzalkonium chloride, a preservative) may cause discoloration of the lenses.

Albalon Intake Guidelines

It is strongly recommended to use Albalon exactly as prescribed by your health care specialist. Do not use for prolonged periods of time and do not use more of the medicine that recommended, as this may result in damage to the eye blood vessels.

In order to apply the Albalon drops, tilt your head backwards and create a space between the eye and the lower eyelid by gently pulling down the eyelid. Raise the dropper above the eye and look away from it, then apply one drop of the medicine and close the eye. While keeping the eye closed, gently press on the corner of the eye that is closest to the nose. Keep pressing for 1 to 2 minutes in order to prevent the medication from going through the tear duct.

The above information may not coincide with the prescribing health care professional’s instructions. In such cases, you should follow the indications that you have been provided by your prescriber.

Albalon Dosage

The exact Albalon dosage as well as administration schedule will be determined by your personal health care specialist based on a number of factors that are specific to your case. As such, it is recommended that you do not use the dosage or medication plan that has been prescribed to another patient. If you are unsure regarding the exact Albalon dosage, you should ask your personal health care provider for further information.

Albalon Overdose

You should never ingest any quantity of Albalon. This product is for eye application only. If you have swallowed any quantity of this medicine, you should consult with the local poisons center or with your personal health care provider.

Only apply the Albalon dosage that you have been prescribed by your personal ophthalmologist. While an overdose with this medicine is not likely to cause severe harmful effects, in some cases there may be serious consequences. As such, if you suspect an overdose with this medical product you should check with the local emergency room or with your personal physician.

Albalon Missed Dose

In the event that you have missed an Albalon application, you are advised to apply the drops as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for another scheduled dose of the medicine. In such situations it is best to completely skip the missed dose and continue with the normal dosing schedule; you should not apply a larger quantity of the medicine in order to make up for an Albalon missed dose unless your personal ophthalmologist advises you to do so.

Albalon Side Effects

In some cases, Albalon may cause side effects in patients following a treatment course with this medicine. Most commonly, these side effects are not severe and include headaches, tearing, pain under the form of burning or stinging in the eye, redness, blurred vision, nausea, tremor, sweating, dizziness or drowsiness. In such cases it is recommended to continue the Albalon therapy and consult your personal health care professional regarding the matter.

However, severe side effects are also possible. High blood pressure coupled with blurred vision, flushes and severe headaches have been reported as well as cardiac arrhythmia. These, along with any signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction to the medication (such as breathing difficulties caused by a closed throat; hives; swelling of the tongue, lips or face) require immediate discontinuation of the treatment and emergency medical attention.

Albalon Drug Reactions

Albalon should not be used in combination with other eye medication unless your ophthalmologist advised you to do so. In some cases, a reaction between these medicines may occur.

Typically, Albalon will not interact with any kind of oral medication – however such interactions are possible. It is recommended that you inform the prescribing health care professional of any other medication you are currently taking. The prescriber may be particularly interested if you are following a treatment course with beta-blockers (such as Labetalol, Metoprolol or Propanolol) or with a MAO inhibitor (for example Phenelzine, Tranylcypromine or Isocarboxazid).
