ALCAINE

Alcaine Information

Alcaine is a medical product of the anesthetics class, which is employed in order to induce loss of feeling in the eye or numbness before certain medical procedures. This medicinal product may only be applied by an authorized health care professional. This product is available under the form of ophthalmic solution.

Alcaine Indications

Alcaine solution is typically administered to patients before undergoing certain procedures such as removing stitches (sutures) and foreign objects from the eye, measuring internal eye pressure or performing certain examinations. This product may be administered prior to other procedures as well. If you would like to find out exactly why you are being administered Alcaine, it is recommended to ask the examining health care professional – in most cases, an ophthalmologist.

Alcaine Warnings

It is highly advised against Alcaine usage in patients that are allergic to this product or to any of its ingredients. You should let the examining health care professional know of any allergies that you may have to anesthetics, as well as to any other substances, drugs, foods, dyes or preservatives.

Alcaine does not have any effect on pregnancy and breast feeding. This anesthetic may be used on pregnant women and nursing mothers, however it is advised that you discuss the situation with the examining health care professional if you are or plan to become pregnant or if you are breast feeding a baby.

Alcaine Intake Guidelines

Alcaine may only be administered to the patient by an authorized health care professional. In order to administer the anesthetic, the health care professional will apply the prescribed dose by dripping the solution on the patient’s lower eyelid. It may take a short while until the anesthetic takes effect and during this time the patient should be kept under medical attention in order to detect any side effects or unwanted reactions that may appear.

It is advised against touching or wiping the eye after an Alcaine application, until the effect of the anesthetic passes. Doing so may result in permanent damage to the eye. Typically, the effect will only last for about 20 minutes, however if larger doses have been applied or if several applications were performed, this timeframe may be extended.

Alcaine Dosage

The exact Alcaine dosage to be administered in each case will be determined by the examining health care provider depending on a number of factors such as the patient’s age, general health condition and medical history, as well as on the medical procedure that needs to be performed. In most cases, one or two drops are sufficient to induce numbness in the eye; however certain procedures may require several applications of the solution allowing small time periods to pass between applications – typically 5 to 10 minutes between each Alcaine application.

Alcaine Overdose

As the Alcaine solution may only be applied by an authorized health care professional, it is unlikely that the patient will suffer from an overdose. However, in some cases too much of the substance may be absorbed in the patient’s organism, and this may lead to the appearance of such symptoms as unusual weakness or tiredness, restlessness or nervousness, unusual excitement, breathing problems, nausea and vomiting, dizziness or drowsiness and / or irregular heartbeat.

If you have reasons to believe that you are suffering from an overdose with Alcaine, it is highly recommended that you contact a health care professional immediately or move to the nearest hospital to seek emergency medical attention.

Alcaine Missed Dose

Alcaine is a medical product that is applied on a need-only basis prior to certain ophthalmologic procedures. As such, it is very unlikely to miss a dose of the substance.

Alcaine Side Effects

Alcaine may cause some side effects after being administered to a patient. In most cases, the side effects are not severe and will pass as the body becomes adjusted to the substance. Such side effects as mild stinging sensations or irritation of the eye may appear either immediately after application or within a few hours from that moment. These effects do not require medical attention unless they become persistent or bothersome – if that happens you should immediately contact your personal health care professional as you may develop an allergy to this substance.

Less common side effects associated with Alcaine usage are painful sensations under the form of stinging and / or burning, along with eye redness. Watering of the eye and swelling of either the eye or the eyelid have also been reported. Such side effects should be brought to the attention of a specialized health care professional immediately.

Alcaine Drug Reactions

Clinical studies have shown that combinations between Alcaine and other medical products that are available in pharmacies from all over the world can have harmful (dangerous) consequences. Such combinations are known to sometimes affect the beneficial results that your therapy with this drug should have provided you with. For this reason, it is important to be very careful when it comes to starting the intake of a new clinical remedy during your therapy with this anesthetic medical product (Alcaine).

It is strictly forbidden to patients who are currently using this drug on a regular basis to start a treatment with other drugs that are known to have the same clinical effects. The use of this medication is known to affect the absorption of other substances (other medicines’ ingredients). We strongly recommend you to contact your local pharmacist and ask him or her to give you a list of the most common medical products that are known to harmfully interfere with your current intake of Alcaine.

The best way to avoid experiencing an unwanted interaction between this medicine and any other clinical product is to ask for the approval of your PD to start using any other drug during your therapy with this anesthetic.

   By Laura H. (Ankara, Turkey)
  Customer since 12/22/2008 - (4 orders)
  Ordered from European Pharmacy

I placed 4 orders from this company because a friend told me about it. I just lost my job this month all all the benefits that came with it including health insurance. I have to provide medications for my whole family and cannot do it with the cost of drugs here. I trust this site fully and will continue to use it, i don't know what i would do if you didn't provide this service
