GARDASIL

Gardasil Information

This medical product is actually a vaccine against the human papilloma-virus (a pathogen that may trigger cervix cancer, genital warts, and other types of cancerous clinical illnesses that affect the vagina and / or the vulva). Gardasil is effective in the prevention of an infection with some types of the human papilloma-virus (the 18, 16, 11 and 6 types / strains of the virus). This medical product can be administered to girls and to young females. However, all females who are considering undergoing a therapy with Gardasil should be aware of the fact that this product cannot cure an infection with HPV (the general abbreviation for human papilloma-virus). This medication can also be given to females who have already suffered from a certain type of infection with this virus.

Gardasil Indications

The CDC (a common abbreviation that stands for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) generally recommend girls who are between 11 and 12 years of age to be administered the recommended dose(s) of Gardasil. However, the administration of this vaccine can also be applied in the case of women who are younger than 26 and who have not undergone this immunization procedure (or who have not been administered all the required booster vaccines).

Gardasil Warnings

All females who are interested in benefiting from the results of such an immunization routine should alert their physician in advance of their administration of Gardasil if they present any clinical manifestations that are known to be widely associated with an infectious condition (high fever, weakened immune system, etc). Furthermore, extra caution should be employed in the case of women who are suffering from a certain type of bleeding disorder (especially hemophilia).

The administration of Gardasil will not protect the patient from becoming infected with any other sexually transmitted clinical disorders, including: gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes, syphilis, HIV, and trichomoniasis. Medical studies have concluded that this vaccine is a category B pregnancy medication. Therefore, pregnant females may be administered a dose of Gardasil, as this should not disturb the normal development of their child. However, this matter should be discussed with the female’s gynecologist, as there are other factors that should be taken into consideration in deciding whether the administration of Gardasil is really safe for the pregnant female and for her child. Nursing mothers should not receive this vaccine unless they discontinue breast-feeding their children. This is imperative for the infant’s health and well being.

Gardasil Intake Guidelines

The adequate dose of Gardasil is generally administered as an intra-muscular injection in the patient’s thigh or in her upper arm. This medical process should take place in a well equipped clinical setting (your doctor’s office for example). A therapy course with this medication consists in the administration of 3 shots of this vaccine. The first shot of this medication can be administered to any female who is between 9 and 26 years of age.

The second dose of Gardasil is administered 2 months after the first, while the third should be given to the patient about 6 months after the first vaccination.

Gardasil Dosage

Each patient should be prescribed a personalized dose of Gardasil by their main prescriber, who is well familiarized with the individual’s general health condition, age, clinical history, and so on, as the proper dose of this vaccine that she is to receive is based on such factors. We strongly suggest you to seek your physician’s professional expertise concerning this matter.

Gardasil Overdose

Over-dosage with Gardasil is highly unlikely to occur, as this vaccine is administered by a well trained professional. We have no information related to the common clinical manifestations that may appear in such a medical emergency. You should ask your PD for further advice concerning this matter.

Gardasil Missed Dose

If you unfortunately miss one of your appointments with your PD and you are not administered a dose of this product in due time, you should immediately alert your main medical prescriber and reschedule your appointment. It is important that you receive your dose of Gardasil as soon as possible. Abnormally long delays may decrease the effectiveness of your immunization routine. All patients must be well aware of the fact that if they fail to receive all the doses of Gardasil that they have been prescribed by their physician, they may not be fully immunized against an infection with the human papilloma-virus.

Gardasil Side Effects

Although the administration of this vaccine may trigger a set of unpleasant and bothersome clinical manifestations, all patients must know that an infection with the HPV will trigger much more severe consequences than a dose of Gardasil. Fortunately, the risk of experiencing the side effects of this medication is quite low.

Allergic reactions to this vaccine have been reported; they are known to manifest as: hives, swelling, breathing difficulties, and so on. Some patients may develop faintness about 15 minutes after they have been administered a dose of Gardasil.

Other quite severe clinical manifestations that have been associated with the use of this vaccine include: mild fever, vomiting, nausea, stomach upset, diarrhea, stuffy nose, cough, sore throat, muscle pain, and so on. However, a patient who has been administered Gardasil may experience some clinical manifestations that have not been listed here. It is imperative to alert your prescriber if you develop any severe symptoms after undergoing this type of immunization routine (with Gardasil).

Gardasil Drug Reactions

Before your PD decides whether you may be administered a dose of Gardasil he or she will want to know whether you have received any other vaccines in the last few months. Furthermore, the beneficial results of this product may be impaired if you have recently undergone a therapy course with steroids, efalizumab (Raptiva), Azathioprine (Imuran), leflunomide (Arava), Sirolimus (Rapamune), Cyclosporin (Neoral, Sandimmune, Gengraf), etanercept (Enbrel), basiliximab (Simulect), mycophenolate mofetil (CellCept), muromonab-CD3 (Orthoclone), or Tacrolimus (Prograf), and so on.
