Postinor 1 Information

Postinor 1 is a medicine which acts as an emergency contraceptive. This medicine is believed to act in three ways in preventing pregnancy. First, it stops the egg release in the ovaries, it prevents egg fertilization in case an egg had already been released and it also does not allow a fertilized egg to attach itself to the lining of the uterus. Each tablet of Postinor 1 contains 1.5 mg of the main ingredient Levonorgestrel, as well as inactive ingredients (maize starch, potato starch, magnesium stearate, colloidal silica anhydrous, lactose monohydrate and talc). This product is not guaranteed to prevent pregnancy, and it does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases.

Postinor 1 Indications

Postinor 1 is recommended for situations in which pregnancy is undesirable. It is employed as an emergency contraceptive, in case of unprotected sexual contacts or when the regular contraceptive methods have failed. This medicine is effective within 72 hours from the unprotected sexual contact, and is more effective if taken sooner (within 12 hours). There may be other uses for this medicine as well; however they are not included in this guide. Postinor 1 Warnings

Postinor 1 should not be taken as a regular method of contraception. Do not take Postinor 1 if you are pregnant or may be pregnant, if your period is late or if you have a known or suspected allergy to any of the ingredients of this medicine.

It is not recommended to take Postinor 1 more than 72 hours after you had unprotected sex, as it is possible that you are already pregnant. Postinor 1 Intake Guidelines

You should take Postinor 1 as soon as possible after having unprotected sex. It is best that you take the tablet within 12 hours, but no longer than 72 hours after. Do not crush, chew or break the tablet. You may take it with water or food in order to reduce stomach upset.

In case you vomit soon after taking the Postinor 1 tablet (within three hours), you are strongly advised to take another tablet. If you do not have another tablet readily available, you should immediately contact your pharmacist or physician in order to obtain one.

Postinor 1 Dosage

In order to take effect, you need to take one Postinor 1 tablet containing 1.5 mg of Levonorgestrel within at most 72 hours from the time you had unprotected sex. As such, do not break the tablet and do not take more than one tablet (except in case you vomit soon after taking the first one). Postinor 1 Overdose

Postinor 1 Missed Dose

As Postinor 1 is an emergency contraceptive, you are not required to take it more than once. Postinor 1 Side Effects

Postinor 1, like most other pharmaceutical products, may cause a number of side effects. These are generally mild and go away shortly; however some may become persistent and/or severe. The most common adverse reactions caused by this product include nausea that lasts for a short time after taking the Postinor 1 tablet, in some cases coupled with vomiting. Other adverse reactions that may appear include breast tenderness, lower abdominal pain, headaches, dizziness, tiredness or diarrhea.

Postinor 1 Drug Reactions

Taking certain medicines at the same time you are taking Postinor 1 may prevent the contraceptive from working properly. Examples of such medicines are barbiturates and other epilepsy medication (Primidone, phenytoin, Carbamazepine), tuberculosis medication (Rifabutin, Rifampicin), Ritonavir, Griseofulvin, Cyclosporin or St. John’s wort and herbal remedies which contain it.
