Eurax Information

Eurax is a topical medicine, available under the form of lotion or cream. It is an antipruritic, scabicidal medicine, based on the main ingredient Crotamiton USP. Apart from the main ingredient, present in a concentration of 10%, this pharmaceutical preparation also contains water, propylene glycol, petrolatum, steareth-2, laureth-23, cetyl alcohol, magnesium aluminum silicate, dimethicone, carbomer-934, diazolidinylurea, sodium hydroxide, magnesium nitrate, methylisothiazolinone and methylchloroisothiazolinone, and the cream form of the medicine also contains glyceryl stearate.

Eurax Indications

Eurax is commonly prescribed by health care professionals for the treatment of patients suffering from scabies. Also, this medicine is used as part of the treatment of pruritic skin, as it helps relieve the symptoms in patients suffering from this affection. In certain situations, health care professionals may choose to administer or prescribe this medication to patients who are suffering from other affections, however we do not have any detailed information regarding such cases. As such, if you have been prescribed a treatment course with this medicine and are not sure why, it is best to request additional information from the prescriber.

Eurax Warnings

It is strongly recommended to avoid getting any quantity of Eurax in your eyes, nose or mouth, as it may cause the area to become inflamed. Also, you should never apply this medicine on patches of acutely inflamed skin, on weeping or raw surfaces; instead, you should wait until the inflammation has subsided before applying the medicine.

Patients suffering from an allergy to Crotamiton USP or to any of the other ingredients should not use Eurax. Also, as the safety of this medicine during pregnancy and breast feeding has not yet been established, it is recommended that pregnant women or nursing mothers should consult with their personal physician before starting a therapy course with Eurax.

Eurax Intake Guidelines

For the treatment of scabies, if you are using Eurax under the form of lotion, you should shake the lotion well before using the medicine. Wash the skin thoroughly and dry it with a soft towel. Apply the medicine in a thin layer on the entire body from the neck to the feet, ensuring that you also apply it to the soles of the feet. You don't need to use any medicine on the face or scalp, as normally scabies does not infect the head. After applying the medicine, rub your skin gently to ensure a proper absorption. Leave the medicine on the skin for 24 hours before applying a new dose, without washing the first dose off. After 48 hours from the last Eurax application, wash the skin thoroughly with soap and water.

In case you are using Eurax to treat itching, the best way to apply the medicine is to rub it into the affected areas until completely absorbed. Repeat the process as recommended.

Eurax Dosage

The exact Eurax dosage may vary from one person to another; generally, you should use a small quantity of the product, enough to cover the affected area of skin (or, in the case of scabies, your entire body) with a thin layer. In some situations, your prescriber may direct the use of a specific quantity of the product. For more information, you should consult your personal health care professional.

Eurax Overdose

At all times, avoid ingesting any quantity of Eurax, as this may cause unwanted reactions. An overdose with this medicine resulting from ingestion of the product is characterized by inflammation / irritation of the mouth, of the throat and of the gastric lining, burning feeling in the mouth and throat, nausea and vomiting, and abdominal pain. If you have swallowed any quantity of Eurax, you should immediately contact the poisons department or the nearest medical facility (a clinic or a hospital), as you may need emergency medical care.

Eurax Missed Dose

Generally, the Eurax treatment consists of two applications of the product, spaced at a 24 hour interval. Prior to applying the first dose of the medicine, it is advised to ensure that you will be able to apply the second dose at roughly the same time the next day.  In case you have missed your second application of Eurax, it is best to consult with your personal physician. In some cases, you may need to restart your therapy course.

Eurax Side Effects

While using Eurax as prescribed, you are not likely to experience any severe side effects. In some cases, you may experience mild burning, stinging or itching upon or after applying the medication, however these symptoms should go away soon. However, if the symptoms persist or if your initial condition worsens, you are strongly advised to contact your personal health care professional.

The most severe side effect which may occur as a result of Eurax usage is an allergic reaction to the product or its ingredients. Such a reaction is characterized by swelling of the lips, face or tongue, shortness of breath, the presence of hives or rashes. If you experience any of these symptoms, you should immediately contact your personal physician.

Eurax Drug Reactions

It is possible for drug interactions between Eurax and other pharmaceutical or herbal products to occur. As such, it is advised to avoid using any other topical agents, any cosmetics or other substances on the treated areas of skin at the same time or after applying the medicine.
