ImmuCyst Information

This medication is used in the treatment of Bladder Cancer; this medication will react with the body’s own defense system and attack the cancer cells. It is referred to as Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) and is a common member of the cancer fighting team of medicines recognized as antineoplastics. ImmuCyst Indications

The medication is intended to treat primary or recurrent carcinoma of the bladder. This medication cannot be given without a doctor’s supervision.

ImmuCyst Warnings

A BCG reaction may be fatal. A reaction may occur if Immucyst is given within 14 days of a biopsy. Patients should be extremely careful because urine may contain live bacteria and precautions should be followed by infection control procedures. After treatment with Immucyst, all areas that have been contaminated with urine will need to be cleaned with bleach. This medication contains bacteria and should be handled with care. Use birth control while using this medication to prevent pregnancy. An individual should not use this medication if they have a reduced immune system, active tuberculosis infection, has HIV, urinary tract infection, or is breast feeding. This medicine should not be used by women who are pregnant and or breast feeding. It could bring harm to an infant.

ImmuCyst Intake Guidelines

Medication is given in form of Intravesical instillation. ImmuCyst can only be given to the patient by a doctor through a catheter. The patient’s bladder must be completely empty before this medicine is administered. The medication is required to remain at least 2 hours in the bladder in order to work properly. After taking this medication you will empty your bladder frequently and drink plenty of fluids.

ImmuCyst Dosage

One dose is 81 mg BCG and treatment should begin 14 days after biopsy and the therapy consists of 6 weeks of therapy, once dose each week.

ImmuCyst Missed dose

If you missed a scheduled appointment contact your physician to reschedule. Typically this procedure is begun over a six week period and administered once a week during that time. It is then repeated at the 8 and 12 week time period. Over the following year you will take it once per month.

ImmuCyst Side effects

Chills and fever and or flu like symptoms may occur if these symptoms last more than 48 hours contact your physician. Notify your physician if you have increased urination, joint pain, cough, jaundice and nausea, or vomiting. Blood in the urine or if you have a cough and fever 6 months after treatment let your doctor know because you will need to be checked for tuberculosis.

ImmuCyst Drug reactions

Some reactions include the use of immunosuppressants and or radiation may interfere with immune response to Immucyst and increase the BCG infection. The following medication should not be used with Immucyst: antibacterial drugs, antituberuclosis drugs. And the following medications:

Azathioprine
Flucytosine
Ganciclovir
Interferon
Plicamycin
Other cancer medications

Because two medications may react to each other does not mean that you will automatically have to stop taking these medicine, your physician might have to do some adjusting.
