Prulifloxacin or Pruquin belonging to the drug class of fluoroquinolone; this medication is a chemotherapeutic antibiotic that was developed a few decades ago in Japan. This medication has been used to treat urinary tract infections of various complications. It has also been administered to patients with respiratory tract infections that were contracted by air, and infectious diarrheas and gastroenteritis. This medication has been approved in many countries around the world but has yet to be approved in the United States.

Pruquin Warnings

Studies have shown that adverse reactions have been noted in those with diseases of the tendon when Prulifloxacin was used for treatment. This has also been the case when administered to patients that have shown Prulifloxacin hypersensitivity. This medication should not be used with patients suffering from celiac disease or epileptic and seizure disorders.

Due to the risk of birth defects or spontaneous abortions; this medication is not to be administered to women who are pregnant. In addition, women who are nursing should not take this medication as well because it has shown to spread quickly into the mothers milk supply and could quite possibly place the child in danger.

This medication is not typically prescribed for children although it has been used in the United Kingdom to fight cystic fibrosis spawned lower respiratory infections for that age group. The overall concern is that the fluoroquinolone in Prulifloxacin could very well lead to joint damage that is irreversible or even fatality. Musculoskeletal injury of a permanent nature could also occur with this medication.

Pruquin Side Effects

Studies have indicated that those who suffer from depression or panic disorder have been known to display serious side effects to this medication. Those with psychiatric conditions appear to be more likely to experience side effects like acute anxiety, psychosis, attempts of suicide, and panic attacks. In addition, patients taking Prulifloxacin should avoid excessive periods of time in direct sunlight because phototoxicity reactions have been known to occur. For some patients who have experienced glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity this medication has been known to produce hemolytic reactions.

Pruquin Dosage

In the countries where Prulifloxacin is approved the medication comes in tablet form and can be administered at 250 mg, 450 mg, or 600 mg. Where approved this medication should be taken strictly as directed by the doctor.

Pruquin Drug Interactions

When consistently administered with Probenecid; this medication can lead to a decrease in urinary excretion. Increased risk of convulsions is apparent when this medication is used with Fenbufen. It has been reported that when hypoglycemic agents are used with patients inflicted with diabetes; those using Prulifloxacin could develop hypoglycemia. The use of Nicardipine may decrease the effectiveness of Prulifloxacin.

Pruquin Overdose

Typically, when overdose is apparent; it is imperative that the stomach is emptied through vomiting or in some cases through gastric lavage.
