Renagel Information

Renagel is used for people with kidney disease who are on dialysis to lower blood levels of phosphorus. This medication will help prevent hypocalcaemia, which is caused by increased phosphorus.

Renagel Indications

Renagel is primarily used for chronic kidney disease patients who are on dialysis.

Renagel Warnings

Do not take any other medications one hour prior to or three hours after taken Renagel. This medication will bind to other medications making them not work as they are supposed to. Without the advice of your doctor, do not take any mineral supplements or vitamins. Do not use Renagel if you allergic to it or if u have blockage in the intestines or low level of phosphorus. Let your doctor know what medications you might be allergic to and if you have any problems swallowing or if you have severe constipation. If you have any problems with your digestive system, advice your doctor before taking this medication. If you have any of the problems mentioned above, your medication might need to be adjusted.

Renagel Intake Guidelines

Renagel needs to be swallowed whole; you may not crush or chew the tablet. Do not take more than directed by your physician. This medication should be taken with food.

Renagel Dosage

Depending on the strength of medication needed as to how many times a day the medication is to be taken. This medication comes in 400 mg and 800 mg tablets. If you are on an 800 mg tablet you will take 1 tablet three times a day with food and if you are on a 400 mg tablet, you will take 2 tablets three times a day with food. It depends on your phosphorus levels.

Renagel Overdose

Renagel cannot be absorbed into the body there it is very unlikely that an overdose could occur.

Renagel Missed Dose

As with any medication, you may take the missed dose as long it is not time for the next scheduled dose. If it time for the next dose only take one dose; never double up on a dose.

Renagel Side Effects

As with all medications if you are having an allergic reaction consults medical care immediately, the symptoms of an allergic reaction are as follows: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling of the tongue, throat or face. Some serious side effects that you will need to seek medical attention with are: constipation, severe pain in your stomach, flu-like symptoms, fainting, numbness and breathing trouble and or chest tightness. Other side effects that may not require a doctor visit are: nausea, vomiting, gas, cough, and sore throat, itching.

Renagel Drug Reactions

There are a few medications that may interfere with renagel such as ciprofloxin, seizure medication and heart rhythm medication. As indicated above if you need to take other medications take them at least 1 hour before or three hours after taking Renagel. Before taken any medications check with your physician first; including any over the counter medications.
