Tracleer Information

Tracleer is used for patients with PAD or pulmonary arterial hypertension. This medication prevents thickening of blood vessels in the heart and lungs and lowers BP in the lungs, which helps your heart to pump blood better. By using this medication the patient will be able to do normal activities such as exercise and keep the patient’s condition from worsening. This medication comes in a tablet form.

Tracleer Indication

Tracleer is for use with patients to treat PAD, to improve the ability to exercise and to keep the condition from getting worse.

Tracleer Warnings

This medication could affect the patients liver. Liver aminotransferase levels will need to be checked prior to taking Tracleer and checked monthly while the patient is taking the medication. If the levels change the patient might have to discontinue this medication. Tracleer has been known for patients retaining fluid; therefore the patient had to begin treatment with diuretic fluid management or will have to discontinue use of tracleer. Tracleer has been known to change hemoglobin and hematocrit levels in some patients. If signs of pulmonary edema occur, consider stopping the medication would be best. Tracleer can only be obtained through a program called T.A.P or Tracleer Access Program and be accessed by pharmacies and prescribers only. Patients will need to be enrolled in the program in order to receive this medication. This is done this way because the risks to the patient’s liver and that Tracleer can cause birth defects.

Tracleer Intake Guidelines

Tracleer should be taken as directed with a full glass of water, continue taking this medication unless your doctor gives you orders to discontinue the medication. Store this medicine away from heat and in a room temperature room.

Tracleer Dosage

Tracleer is usually prescribed to be taken twice a day in the morning and eveningwith an 8 ounces glass of water. This medication may be taken with food or without. Continue medication until your doctor tells you otherwise.

Tracleer Overdose

If you have taken too much tracleer and you are experiencing symptoms of an overdose such as headache, vomiting, increased heart rate, and or dizziness seek medical attention immediately.

Tracleer Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of tracleer, take the missed dose unless it is time for your next dose, in which you will only take one dose. Do not take both doses together.

Tracleer Side Effects

There are many side effects some are more serious than others. If you have any symptoms of an allergic reaction such as trouble breathing, hives, swelling of your tongue or throat seek medical care immediately. Some serious side effects include nausea, not wanting to eat, jaundice, dark urine and clay colored stools you need to call your doctor. Other side effects include, headache, swelling of feet, dizziness, itching, feeling tired, and upset stomach.
