Cubicin (Daptomycin)

Cubicin Information

This medication will fight against bacteria in the body. Cubicin is also used to treat bacterial infections of the skin and underlying tissue. There are also other uses that Cubicin is used for.

Cubicin Indications

Cubicin is given through an IV directly into the bloodstream.  This medication is allowed to drip in slowly. It may take at least 30 minutes for the full dose to be given. This medicine should only be injected by a person knowing the correct way to administer the medication.

Cubicin Warnings

Cubicin should never be used if you have ever had an allergic reaction to Daptomycin. If you have a kidney disease or a muscle or nerve disorder informs the doctor of this before taking this medication. If you get worse in nay way with things like new or worsening cough, fever, trouble breathing, diarrhea that is watery or bloody, muscle pain or weakness, tingly feeling, fever then you need to let your doctor know right away. You will need to see your doctor often to see if this medication is working.

Cubicin Intake Guidelines

Cubicin is administered every 24 hours for 1 to 2 weeks.

Cubicin Dosage

This is a powdered mixture that you will mix with water and swirl. You can not shake this mixture or it will be no good. Each bottle of Cubicin is a single dose.

Cubicin Overdose

If the patient or a child swallows this medication they should contact poison control as soon as possible.

Cubicin Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of Cubicin you should call and tell your doctor. They will tell you what you should do.

Cubicin Side Effects

There could be some side effects while taking this medication. If you start have trouble breathing or your lips start swelling or any of face, lips, tongue or throat starts to swell. Call your doctor right away. These are signs of a severe allergic reaction.

Some of the more severe side effects of Cubicin are:

1. Low potassium (confusion, uneven heart rate, extreme thirst, increased urination, leg discomfort, muscle weakness or limp feeling).
2. High potassium (slow heart rate, weak pulse, muscle weakness, tingly feeling)
3. Muscle pain or weakness with fever or flu symptoms and dark colored urine
4. Pale skin, feeling light-headed or short of breath, rapid heart rate, trouble concentrating
5. Urinating less than usual or not at all
6. Vaginal itching or discharge
7. Diarrhea that is watery or bloody
8. White patches or sores in your mouth or throat
9. Pain or burning when you urinate
10. New or worsening cough, fever, trouble breathing

If you are having any of these side effects call your doctor and they may be able to give you something to relieve these effects.
Lesser Side Effects of Cubicin are:

• Constipation, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting;
• Headache;
• Swelling;
• Back pain, pain in your arms or legs;

Cubicin Drug Reactions

There are some other medications that may react with Cubicin. Some of these are Coumadin; which is a blood thinner, Nebcin, Lipitor, Caduet, Lescol, lovastatin, Mevacor, Altoprev, Advicor, pravastatin Pravachol, rosuvastatin Crestor, or simvastatin.
