DOPERGIN (Lisuride Maleate)

Dopergin Information

Dopergin is used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Dopamine is the chemical substance in the brain known to be absent or reduced in Parkinson's disease. It binds to particular receptor sites in the brain in order to perform its normal activities. Lisuride is able to bind to the dopamine receptor sites and so acts as a substitute in the absence of dopamine. It is therefore able to reduce the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Dopergin is often used in conjunction with levodopa and is suitable for individuals who can no longer tolerate levodopa or are not responding well to it.

Dopergin Warnings

Some people may experience dizziness caused by low blood pressure in the first few days of taking this medicine. This can be relieved by lying down until the symptoms pass. This medicine may cause drowsiness. If affected do not drive or operate machinery. Use with caution in: History of psychotic illness; Tumour of the pituitary gland in the brain; Women who can bare children. This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients. Dopergin should be used with caution during pregnancy. Seek medical advice from your doctor. There are no known harmful effects when this medicine is used by breastfeeding mothers. The action of lisuride may be reduced by certain medicines used to treat psychotic disorders (eg chlorpromazine and haloperidol).

Dopergin Side effects

The following are some of the side effects of Dopergin: Headache, Drowsiness, Low blood pressure (hypotension) , False perceptions of things that are not really there (hallucinations) , Dizziness, Nausea and vomiting , Tiredness (lethargy).

If an overdose of Dopergin is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

Dopergin Usage guidelines

Dopergin should be started on a low dose and gradually increased to the optimal dose. Take Dopergin with or after food Store at room temperature, out of reach of children.
