Ecotrin Information

Ecotrin belongs to the kind of drugs called salicylates. This drug decreases the substances in the body that cause pain and inflammation.

Ecotrin Indications

Ecotrin, under medical supervision, is used in treating or preventing strokes, transient ischemic attacks, heart attacks, and angina in some persons. This medication could also be used in other purposes not mentioned here.

Ecotrin Warnings

Talk to your doctor first before taking Ecotrin if you have allergy to aspirin; allergy to a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug like ibuprofen, naproxen, ndomethacin, ketoprofen, nabumetone, oxaprozin; or allergy to tartrazine.

This drug might not be good or you if you drink more than three alcoholic beverages a day; have liver disease; ulcer or bleeding in the stomach; kidney disease; bleeding or blood clotting disorder; congestive heart failure; fluid retention; heart disease; high blood pressure; gout; asthma; or Nasal Polyps. In case you have the said conditions, your doctor might not allow you to take Ecotrin, adjust your dose, or require you a special monitoring during the treatment with this drug. It is not known whether this medication could cause harm to an unborn baby. Talk to your doctor first before taking this drug if you are pregnant. This drug passes to breast milk and could affect a nursing child. Talk to your doctor first before taking this drug if you are breast-feeding a baby.

Ecotrin might increase the danger of Reye’s syndrome on patients who are younger than 20 years of age. Talk to your doctor first before using this drug to a child or teenager who has fever, flu symptoms, or chicken pox.

Ecotrin Intake Guidelines

Follow the exact direction given to you by your doctor in taking Ecotrin. In case you did not understand the instruction, do not hesitate to ask your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse to explain them to you. Make sure that you swallow the medication properly, it is advisable to take every dose with a full glass of water. To reduce stomach upset, you may take this drug with milk, food, or antacids. Enteric-coated Ecotrin is gentle to the stomach so it is not needed to take this with food and must not be taken with antacids. Avoid crushing, chewing, or breaking any form of enteric-coated Ecotrin. You must swallow them completely because they have special coating that protects the stomach. Avoid taking Ecotrin longer than the time given by your doctor. You may take Ecotrin for 3 days for fever and 10 days for pain. Stop taking Ecotrin and call your doctor immediately if your condition did not improve or if it becomes worse.

Ecotrin Dosage

You may obtain the dosage of Ecotrin from your doctor. The dose will vary from person to person.

Ecotrin Overdose

The signs of overdose with Ecotrin include hallucinations, rapid breathing, dizziness, ringing in the ears, nausea, coma, vomiting, headache, confusion, seizures, and fever. In case you experience any of the said signs or suspect an overdose, look for emergency medical attention.

Ecotrin Missed Dose

If you are taking Ecotrin regularly and you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, just skip the missed dose and take the next dose that was regularly scheduled. Avoid taking a double dose of this medication. Usually, missing a dose is not a problem if you are taking Ecotrin in an as-needed basis. Take Ecotrin as soon as you remember and inside or between the time given by your doctor, avoid taking another dose of this medication.

Ecotrin Side Effects

Some of the serious side effects of Ecotrin are allergic reaction such as closing of the throat, hives, difficulty in breathing, and swelling of the lips, tongue or face; black, bloody, or tarry stools; uncontrolled fever; nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain; decreased hearing or ringing in the ears; blood in the urine or vomit; seizures; or dizziness, confusion, or hallucinations. In case you experience any of the said serious side effects, stop taking this drug and look for emergency medical attention. Some of the less serious side effects of this medication are heartburn or indigestion and faint ringing in the ears. You may still continue taking this drug but call your doctor if you experience any of the said less serious side effects. Some side effects that are not mentioned here could also occur. Inform your doctor if you experience unusual or bothersome side effects.

Ecotrin Drug Reactions

Some drugs may affect Ecotrin. Talk to your doctor first before taking Ecotrin if you are taking blood thinner like warfarin, heparin, Enoxaparin, dalteparin, danaparoid, ardeparin or tinzaparin; nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug like ibuprofen, ketoprofen, naproxen, diclofenac, nabumetone, oxaprozin, piroxicam, etodolac, fenoprofen, Flurbiprofen, Indomethacin, ketorolac, sulindac or tolmetin; and another salicylate like aspirin, choline salicylate and magnesium salicylate, or salsalate. If you are taking any of the said drugs, your doctor might not allow you to take Ecotrin, adjust your dose or require you a special monitoring during the treatment. Other drugs that could affect Ecotrin are not mentioned here.
