A person with a history of an anaphylactic reaction intends Epipen for immediate self-administration. Anaphylaxis refers to a severe allergic reaction in which major dermal and systemic signs and symptoms manifest. The full-blown syndrome consists of urticaria (hives) and/or angioedema with hypotension and bronchospasm. Studies of epinephrine in an Epipen Auto-Injector in animals to evaluate the carcinogenic and mutagenic potential or the effect on fertility have not been conducted.

Epipen have no adequate studies in pregnant women. Epipen should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefits justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
