Fragmin Information

Fragmin is a blood thinner. Blood thinners works by preventing the formation of blood clots.

Fragmin Indications

Fragmin is primarily used in preventing the formation of blood clots in patients who will undergo hip replacement surgery or abdominal surgery. Fragmin is also used in treating certain types of angina and heart attacks. Fragmin is also used in preventing complications of blood clots in patients who are taking aspirin. Fragmin may also be used for purposes other than those indicated here.

Fragmin Warnings

Fragmin may not be advisable if you have any of the following conditions:

Very low level of platelets in the blood
Uncontrolled active bleeding
Allergy to pork products
Cannot have accurate blood testing done
Bacterial endocarditis
Uncontrolled high blood pressure
Need to have surgery
Hemophilia or any other blood disorder
Stomach ulcer
Eye problems
Liver disease
Kidney disease

Inform your doctor if you have these conditions before taking Fragmin so your doctor can take the necessary precautions such as dosage adjustment or special monitoring during intake.

Fragmin belongs to the FDA pregnancy Category B, which means that it is not known to harm an unborn child. Do not take Fragmin without your doctor’s permission if you are pregnant or might be pregnant during treatment.

It is also unknown if Fragmin passes into breast milk. Do not take Fragmin without your doctor’s consent if you are nursing a baby.

Fragmin Intake Guidelines

Fragmin should be taken in exactly as described by your doctor. If there are matters that you do not understand, refer to your doctor, nurse or a pharmacist and ask him or her to explain those matters to you.

Fragmin should be injected subcutaneously and not intramuscularly or intravenously. It is important to take Fragmin regularly. Do not abruptly discontinue taking Fragmin without your doctor’s advice even when your symptoms alleviate.

Store Fragmin away from moisture and heat.

Fragmin Dosage

Dosage of Fragmin should be obtained from your doctor. Dosage may vary from person to person with regards to a variety of factors, which include severity of the condition, age and others.

Do not take in more or less of Fragmin so as not to alter its affects and to prevent overdose.

Fragmin Overdose

Symptoms of overdose of Fragmin include the following:

Unusual bleeding from wounds or injection sites
Nosebleeds
Black, bloody or tarry stools
Blood in urine
Easy bruising and bleeding

If you experience any of these symptoms, you may be experiencing overdose. Seek immediate medical attention or call poison control. Inform your doctor afterwards.

Fragmin Missed Dose

Doses of Fragmin should not be missed. If as dose of Fragmin is missed, however, take it as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for the next dose of Fragmin, skip the missed one and take the subsequent dose according to your normal dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of Fragmin unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Inform your doctor if you miss a dose of Fragmin.

Fragmin Side Effects

Fragmin may have any of the following serious side effects and allergic reactions:

Difficulty in breathing
Closing of the throat
Swelling of the lips, tongue or face
Hives
Any prolonged or unexplained bleeding
Pain, warmth, or redness in an arm or leg
Ulceration at the injection site

If you experience any of these, discontinue use of Fragmin and inform your doctor.

Fragmin may also have less serious side effects that are more likely to occur. They include the following:

Mild pain, redness or warmth at injection site
Rash or itching
Fever

If you experience any of these, continue using the product but inform your doctor immediately.

Other side effects may also occur when you take Fragmin. Inform your doctor if you experience anything unusual while or after taking Fragmin.

Fragmin Drug Reactions

Fortovase may interact with the following drugs:

Aspirin
Ibuprofen
Warfarin
Aspirin and dipyradimole
Ticlopidine
Dipyridamole

Other drugs may also interact with Fortovase. Inform your doctor if you are taking any medications other than Fortovase including over the counter prescriptions.
