HYGROTON (Chlorthalidone)

Hygroton Information

Hygroton, a drug with the generic name Chlorthalidone, is a thiazide diuretic or water pill. Hygroton decreases the amount of fluid in your body by increasing the amount of salt and water lost in the urine.

Hygroton Indications

Hygroton is indicated to lower blood pressure and to decrease edema or swelling.

Hygroton may also be prescribed for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Hygroton Warnings

Hygroton should not be taken if allergies to one or any of its ingredients occur. Do not take Hygroton if you are allergic to any sulfa-based drugs such as sulfa antibiotics unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Before taking Hygroton, tell your doctor if you have experienced any of the following:

• Diabetes mellitus
• Gout
• Pancreatitis
• Liver disease
• Kidney disease
• Collagen vascular disease
• High level of cholesterol or triglycerides I the blood
• Systemic lupus erythem atosus

Hygroton Intake Guidelines

Take Hygroton in the day to reduce nighttime urination unless otherwise instructed by your doctor.

Take each dose of Hygroton with a full glass of water.

Be careful in driving or operating hazardous machinery after a dose of Hygroton.

Take Hygroton in caution with alcohol. Alcohol may increase the risks of side effects.

Avoid diet high in salt.

Avoid prolonged exposure to the sunlight avoid becoming overheated in hot weather and during exercise.

Do not stop using Hygroton abruptly even if you feel better. Discontinue use may worsen your condition.

Keep Hygroton away from reach of children an pets.

Unless your doctor is aware of it, do not take any other medications. Tell your doctor and pharmacist that you are using Hygroton if you are about to start taking any new medicine.

Hygroton Dosage

Take Hygroton exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.

Hygroton Overdose

Seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of a Hygroton overdose includes the folloiwing:

• Increased urination
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Fatigue
• Lethargy
• Unconsciousness

Consult your doctor if you suspect an overdose of Hygroton.

Hygroton Missed Dose

Take the missed dose of Hygroton as soon as possible. However, skip the missed dose and take only the next regularly scheduled dose if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not take a double dose of Hygroton.

Hygroton Side Effects

Talk to your doctor if you experience symptoms of Hygroton Side effects. Symptoms of side effects of Hygroton include the following:

• Closing of your throat
• Swelling of your lips, tongue and face
• Hives
• Difficulty breathing
• Abnormal bleeding or bruising
• Yellow eyes or skin
• Confusion
• Irregular heartbeats or a fluttering feeling in your chest
• Unusual fatigue
• Little or no urine

Other less serious side effects are likely to occur. Continue using Hygroton and tell your doctor if you experience any of the following:

• Dizziness
• Tingling or numbness in your hands, feet or arms and legs
• Excessive urination
• Muscle weakness or cramps
• Nausea
• Increased hunger or thirst
• Decreased appetite
• Abdominal pain
• Sensitivity to sunlight

Side effects other than those listed I this medication drug may also occur. Talk to your doctor if you suspect side effects of Hygroton that is especially bothersome.
