Iopidine Information

Iopidine has a generic name apraclonidine. Iopidine belongs to the category of drug called a ntiglaucoma agent, ophthalmic or antihypertensive, ocular.

Iopidine Indications

Iopidine is used in treating glaucoma. Iopidine is used when the first medications you used for glaucoma did not work. Iopidine is used before and after some type of eye surgery. Iopidine could also be used in other purposes not mentioned here.

Iopidine Warnings

Talk to your doctor first before using Iopidine if you have or have had an allergic reaction to Iopidine or other substances like preservatives.

It is not known whether Iopidine could cause harm to an unborn baby. Talk to your doctor first before using Iopidine if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during the treatment.

It is unknown whether Iopidine passes into breast milk and could cause harm to a nursing infant. Talk to your doctor first before using Iopidine if you are breast-feeding a baby.

Before using Iopidine, inform your doctor if you have heart or blood vessel disease, kidney disease, liver disease, high blood pressure, depression, history of vasovagal attack, and unusual reaction to eye medications that decreases its pressure.

Iopidine Intake Guidelines

Follow the exact direction given to you by your doctor in using Iopidine. It is advisable to visit your doctor regularly to check your progress and to check if the medicine is working.

Put at least 10 minutes gap between the applications incase your doctor require you to use two different eye drops.

If you are using an Iopidine in the form of an eye drop, wash your hands first. Tilt your head back, press your finger on the skin under your eyelid, and drop the Iopidine in the space that resulted from pulling your lower eyelid away from the eye. Gently close your eye but do not blink. Apply a pressure in the inner corner of your eye with the help of your finger and keep your eyes close for about 1 or 2 minutes so that your eye could absorb the medicine.

Iopidine Dosage

Follow the exact dose of Iopidine given to you by your doctor. Do not use more than the amount and frequency of use given to you by your doctor. The dose will vary from person to person.

Iopidine Overdose

If you suspect an overdose of Iopidine, contact your doctor immediately or look for emergency medical attention.

Iopidine Missed Dose

In case you are using Iopidine regularly and you miss a dose, use it in the soonest possible time. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on the regularly scheduled dose. Make sure not to double the doses.

Iopidine Side Effects

Some of The more common side effects of 0.5% Iopidine are allergic reaction such as redness, itching, and tearing of the eye ; eye discomfort; and dryness of the mouth . Its less common side effects are clumsiness or unsteadiness; chest pain; dizziness; numbness or tingling in fingers or toes; irregular heartbeat; raising of upper eyelid; swelling of face, hands, or feet; rash around eyes; depression; eye discharge, irritation, or pain; swelling or redness of eyelid, or inner lining of eyelid; wheezing or troubled breathing; and blurred vision. Look for emergency medical attention or contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the said side effects.

Some less serious side effects of 0.5% Iopidine are constipation; crusting or scales on eyelid or corner of eye; the white part of the eye change its color; dry nose or eyes; feeling of discomfort or illness; sensitivity of the eye to sunlight is increased; muscle aches; drowsiness or sleepiness; nausea; inner lining of eyelid turns pale; and nervousness. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the said less serious side effects.

Some of the less common side effects of 1% Iopidine are allergic reaction such as watering of eye, redness of eye or inner lining of eyelid, and swelling of eyelid and irregular heartbeat. Some of the more common side effects of 1% Iopidine are eye or inner lining of eyelid turns pale; raising of upper eyelid; and the pupil in the eye gets bigger. Look for emergency medical attention or contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the said side effects.

Side effects other than those mentioned here may also occur. Talk to your doctor if you experience any unusual or bothersome side effects.
