Aristocort Indications

This drug (Aristocort) is used to treat certain medical ailments like:

• Endocrine (hormonal) disorders
• Allergic & skin reactions

• Tenosynovitis

• Asthma
• Ulcerative Colitis
• Multiple sclerosis

Aristocort Warnings/Precautions

Aristocort is not recommended for patients with infections caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi as it impairs the body’s ability to combat infections by weakening the body’s immune response.
Inform your doctor before deciding to take Aristocort if you have any of the following conditions:

• Liver disease
• Kidney disease
• High blood pressure or heart disease
• Hypothyroidism
• Psychiatric condition
• Osteoporosis
• Myasthenia gravis
• Diabetes mellitus

Particular monitoring may be required in any of these cases or you may need some dosage adjustments.
Aristocort falls under FDA Pregnancy Category C. If you are pregnant or planning to be while under treatment, have a talk with your doctor first as it is not certain how this drug may affect an unborn fetus.
This medication passes into breast milk. It is therefore suggested to see your doctor if you are nursing a baby.

Aristocort Intake Instructions

Take Aristocort as directed by your physician and ask for further explanation on any unclear instruction in the label.
For oral medication,

• Each oral dose must be taken with a full glass of water. Do not take Aristocort on an empty stomach.
• Use the dropper or the dose-measuring spoon or cup provided.
• For dosage prescribed once a day, take Aristocort before 9:00 AM in order to adapt to the body’s natural cycle.
• If you are taking more than one dose in a day, space the dosage intake equally throughout the day.

For injected medication,

• The injection is done into the joint, skin, muscle, or other tissues. Do not administer the injection at your home without consulting your physician first as to how much and how often it is done, and of how it should be performed.
• Never inject Aristocort if you observe particles or find discoloration in the product.
• Dispose syringes and needles in a proper manner after use.

Unless instructed by your doctor, do not stop usage of Aristocort if you have been under medication for a certain period of time already. Dosage reduction may need to be done gradually.

Aristocort Missed Dose

Take the missed oral dose as soon as you remember within the same day, if you are to take one dose per day. Otherwise, skip the missed dose and proceed with the next one.
If you are taking more than one oral dose per day, you may take the two doses at the same time (the one you missed and the next scheduled dose), or take it as soon as you remember.
In the case of injectable Aristocort, inform your doctor if you happen to miss a dose.

Aristocort Overdose

Over-dosage with Aristocort is usually caused by chronic overdose or large dose intake over a period of time. Even if this type of medical condition is not fatal or alarming, see your doctor if you feel you have overdosed the medication. Ask your PD if he or she can tell you more about this type of medical condition.

Aristocort Side Effects

Severe side effects that may result with the use of Aristocort are the following:

• Allergic reaction like difficulty in breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, face, or hives
• Increased blood pressure that may include severe headache or blurred vision
• Sudden weight gain (more than 5 lbs. in a day or two)
• Pain, redness, or unusual changes on the injected area of the skin

If you observe any of the above symptoms, contact your doctor immediately in order to receive the proper medical attention.
Minor side effects include:

• Insomnia
• Nausea, vomiting, or stomach upset
• Fatigue or dizziness
• Muscle weakness
• Problems with diabetes control
• Increased hunger or thirst

Inform your doctor if you feel any of these symptoms and continue use of Aristocort.
Other reactions that may occur are:

• Acne
• Increased hair growth
• Thinning of the skin
• Cataracts
• Glaucoma
• Osteoporosis
• Roundness of the face
• Changes in behavior

If you experience other side effects not included in these lists, inform your doctor right away.

Aristocort Drug Interactions

The use of other prescribed or over-the-counter medications may increase the chance of incurring side effects or may likely reduce the effectiveness of Aristocort. If you are under treatment of Aristocort, do not take other drugs, including herbal products, without consulting your doctor first.
