Aviane-28 Information

Aviane-28 is a type of birth control pill. They contain a combination of estrogen and progesterone, both hormones involved in conception, and prevent ovulation. Aviane-28 causes the cervical mucus to congeal, which makes it more difficult for the sperm to travel to the uterus.

Aviane-28 Indications

Aviane-28 is primarily used to inhibit pregnancy. It may also be used for other purposes not stated here.

Aviane-28 Warnings

Aviane-28 may react to the following conditions:

• High blood pressure, angina, or heart disease
• Have had stroke
• Bleeding or blood clotting disorder
• Breast, uterine and other hormone-related cancer
• Liver disease or yellowing of the eyes and skin
• Undiagnosed, abnormal vaginal bleeding
• Migraines
• Asthma
• Seizure or epilepsy

If you have any of these conditions, your doctor may inhibit you from using Aviane-28 or may need to adjust your dosage.

This drug belongs to the FDA pregnancy Category X, which means that it can cause birth defects. Do not take this drug if you are pregnant or suspect that you are pregnant. This drug also may cause a decrease in the production of breast milk. Inform your doctor if you are nursing a baby.

Do not smoke while taking this drug. Smoking increases the risk of developing:

• Heart attack
• Stroke
• Blood clot formation

This drug does not offer protection against sexually transmitted disease, which may include HIV or AIDS.

This drug may also interact with other drugs and cause undesirable effects. Inform your doctor if you are taking drugs other than Aviane-28.

Aviane-28 Intake Guidelines

Take Aviane-28 as instructed buy your doctor. If there are things that you do not understand, discuss it with your doctor, nurse or pharmacist. Take the pill on the first Sunday after your menstrual period unless otherwise instructed by your doctor. Take one pill daily and not more than 24 hours after your last dose.

If you are following a 28-day cycle, take 1 pill daily and when the pack runs out discard it. Use another pack the following day.

If you are following the 21-day cycle, take 1 pill daily when the pack runs out, stop taking Aviane-28 for 7 days. Resume taking this drug on the 8th day after your last dose.

Aviane-28 Overdose

Overdose of this product may include any of the following:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Menstrual bleeding

Death is not likely to occur but seek medical attention immediately if you experience these symptoms or if you suspect that you have taken in more of Aviane-28 than you should.

Aviane-28 Missed Dose

Missing a dose increases your risk of pregnancy. The package insert usually has instructions pertaining to missed doses. If you do not have it, ask your doctor, nurse of pharmacist.

When you miss a dose, the usual courses of action are:

• If you miss a single dose, take it as soon as you remember or take in 2 pills on your next dose.
• If you miss two doses consecutively, take the 2 pills as soon as you remember or take 2 pills along with you next dose. You may also take 2 pills each on your next two doses.
• If you miss three doses consecutively, throw away the package and start taking the pills again 7 days after you last dose.

Aviane-28 Side Effects

Aviane-28 may have serious side effects or allergic reactions, which include:

• Difficulty breathing
• Closing of throat
• Swelling of the lips, tongue or face
• Hives
• Blood clot in the lung
• Blood clot in the arm or leg
• Liver damage

If you experience any of these side effects, stop taking the drug and inform your doctor immediately.

It also has less serious side effects, which includes:

• Headache or dizziness
• Nausea or vomiting
• Breakthrough bleeding
• Breast tenderness

These effects may go away with time. If they continue to be bothersome, however, inform you doctor.

Aviane-28 also has rare side effects, which may include:

• Depression
• Changes in weight or appetite
• Vaginal yeast infection
• Changes in menstrual cycle
• Acne
• Changes in libido
• Lethargy or fatigue
• Bloating
• Changes in skin color
• Changes in blood sugar levels

These side effects are not serious but talk to your doctor if you experience any of these.

Other side effects may also occur. Inform your doctor if you experience unusual after or while taking Aviane-28.

Aviane-28 Drug Reactions

Aviane-28 may react with the following drugs:

• Penicillin antibiotic such as Amoxicillin, ampicillin, becampicillin, carbenicillin, cloxallin, dicloxallin, nafcillin, oxacillin, or penicillin
• Tetracycline antibiotic such as demeclocycline, doxycycline, minocycline, or tetracycline
• A barbiturate such as amobarbital, butabarbital, mephobarbital, secobarbital or Phenobarbital
• Rifampin
• Phenytoin
• Carbamazepine
• Griseofulvin

They decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills and may cause pregnancy.

Other drugs not mentioned here may also interact with Aviane. Inform your doctor if you are taking drugs other than Aviane.
