Lyderm Information

Lyderm is a topical corticosteroid that is like cortisone. It belongs to the general family of drugs known as steroids.

Lyderm Indications

Lyderm is primarily used in helping relieve the following:

Redness
Swelling
Itching
Discomfort of many skin problems

It may also be used for purposes other than those indicated here.

Lyderm Warnings

Lyderm may not be advisable if you have any of the following conditions:

Cataracts
Glaucoma
Diabetes mellitus
Infection or sores at the place of treatment
Tuberculosis
Skin conditions that cause thinning of skin with easy bruising

You may not be able to use Lyderm, may need dosage adjustments, or may need special monitoring while using this medication if you have any of the conditions mentioned above.

Do not use Lyderm without your doctor’s permission if you have any known allergies to Lyderm or its main component corticosteroid or other substances such as dyes or preservatives.

Lyderm is not known to cause any birth defects in humans but has been proven to cause birth defects in animals. Do not take Lyderm without your doctor’s consent if you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant during treatment. Lyderm is not known to pass into breast milk is not known to cause defects in nursing infants. Do not apply to breasts before nursing.

Lyderm Intake Guidelines

Lyderm should be used exactly as directed by your doctor. If there are matters that you do not understand, refer to your doctor, nurse or a pharmacist and ask him or her to explain those matters to you.

Wash your hands before and after using Lyderm. Also wash the affected area before applying this medication. Do not bandage or cover treated area unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Lyderm Dosage

Dosage of this drug should be obtained from your doctor. Dosage may vary from person to person with regards to a variety of factors, which include condition of the patient, age and others.

Do not use more or less of Lyderm than your doctor has instructed so as not to alter its effects and to prevent overdose.

Lyderm Overdose

Do not use more of Lyderm than what your doctor has instructed. Inform and your doctor and seek immediate medical attention or call poison control if you suspect overdose or if you have accidentally ingested parts or whole of this medication.

Lyderm Missed Dose

If your health care provider has ordered you to follow a dosing schedule, it is essential not to miss a dose of Lyderm. If a dose is missed, however, apply it as soon as remembered and apply the subsequent dose according to your schedule. Do not apply double doses of Lyderm unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Lyderm Side Effects

Lyderm may have any of the following serious side effects:

Blood-containing blisters on skin
Burning and itching of skin
Increased skin sensitivity
Lack of healing of skin condition
Loss of top skin layer
Numbness in fingers
Painful, red or itchy, pus-containing blisters in hair follicles
Raised, dark red, wart-like spots on skin
Skin infection
Thinning of skin with easy bruising

If you experience any of the preceding symptoms, discontinue using Lyderm and seek immediate medical attention. Inform your doctor afterwards.

Lyderm may also have less serious side effects that are more likely to occur. They include:

Burning
Dryness
Irritation, itching, or redness of skin
Increased redness or scaling of skin sores
Skin rash

These are not serious side effects and may go away with time. If you experience any of them, continue using the product but inform your doctor.

Lyderm Drug Reactions

Other drugs may interact with Lyderm. Inform your doctor if you are taking any medications other than Lyderm including over the counter prescriptions such as vitamins, minerals or herbal products.
