Marcain Information

Marcain belongs to the class of drugs known as local anesthetics. It is injected into the mouth. There it makes the nerves unable to pass messages to the brain. Depending on the amount used Marcain can either stop the pain or cause a temporary loss of feeling.

Marcain Indications

Marcain is primarily used in preventing or relieving pain during dental procedure. Marcain will not, however, put you to sleep. Marcain may also be used for purposes such as those not indicated here in this guide.

Marcain Warnings

Marcain may not be well-suited if you have the following conditions:

• Problems with your blood pressure or circulation
• Heart problems
• Liver problems
• Kidney problems
• Malignant hyperthermia
• Infection or inflammation at the site of injection

Your dentist or doctor may not allow you to take this drug, may need to adjust you dosage or monitor you closely if you have the preceding conditions. Taking Marcain with these conditions may be dangerous for your health.

Marcain is also not suitable if you have has any previous allergies to the following:

• Other local anesthetics
• Bupivacaine hydrochloride
• Adrenaline
• Sodium metabisulfite
• Sodium chloride
• Hydrochloric acid
• Other substances such as food, dyes, or preservatives

It is not known if Marcain can cause any defects or harm to an unborn infant. However, do not take Marcain without your doctor’s permission when you are pregnant.

It is not known whether Marcain passes into breast milk and to a nursing infant. Do not take Marcain if you are nursing a child without your doctor’s consent.

Marcain Intake Guidelines

Marcain should be taken exactly as directed by your doctor or as indicated by the instructions accompanying the package. If there are matters that you do not understand refer to your pharmacist, nurse or physician and ask him or her to explain those matters to you.

Marcain is usually used by the dentist. Application should be supervised by a dentist or an anesthesiologist.

Marcain Overdose

Symptoms of overdose of Marcain include the following:

• Numb feeling in or around the mouth
• Dizziness or stiffness
• Muscle twitching

If intake is given by a dentist or anesthesiologist, overdose is unlikely to happen. If overdose does happen, proper equipment may be available at the clinic or hospital.

Marcain Missed Dose

Since Marcain is intended to be used only when needed, missing a dose of this drug is not an issue.

Marcain Side Effects

Marcain may have any of the following rare side effects or allergic reactions:

• Nervousness
• Dizziness
• Blurred vision
• Drowsiness
• Ringing in the ears
• Numbness
• Feeling strange
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Feeling of alarm
• Rapid heart beat
• Fits
• Unconsciousness
• Breathing problems
• Low blood pressure
• Slow heart beat
• Collapse

If you experience any of these side effects, inform your doctor immediately.

Other side effects may also occur when you take Marcain. Inform your doctor if you experience anything unusual while or after taking Marcain.

Marcain Drug Reactions

Other drugs may interact with Marcain, such as mexilitene. Inform your doctor if you are taking any medications other than Marcain including over the counter prescriptions such as vitamins, minerals, and even herbal products.
