Trusopt is a popular eye medicine that is more commonly used under the generic name of Dorzolamide ophthalmic. A treatment with this medical product is known to effectively reduce the amount of fluid that is found in the patient’s eye. Therefore, patients who use this medicine will experience a reduction in the internal eye pressure.

Do not use this medicine (Trusopt) without your physician’s approval if you are pregnant or if you are nursing an infant. During your treatment with this medicine you should employ extra caution when operating machinery, driving, or performing any other type of hazardous activities, as an intake of this drug could trigger drowsiness and / or dizziness.

If you are suffering from known allergic reactions to any of this medicine’s ingredients you must not be allowed to start using Trusopt. Furthermore, if you are allergic to any sulfa-based medicines like trimethoprim (Bactrim, Septra), sulfamethoxazole (Gantanol), sulfisoxazole (Gantrisin), or sulfacetamide sodium.

Trusopt Intake Guidelines

Each patient should ask their personal health care specialist to give them a set of precise instructions regarding their future treatment with Trusopt. You must not disobey any of the instructions that your personal physician has prescribed you. If you somehow did not completely understand some of the directions that your doctor has given you, we advise you to should ask a nurse or a pharmacist for further and more detailed explanations. It is highly recommended to thoroughly wash your hands after but also before using the Trusopt eye drops. This medical product is known to contain benzalkonium chloride (a well known preservative). This is why soft contact lenses should be removed before using this medical product. You may insert the lenses again 15-20 minutes after using your dose of this medicine.

If you are also using another type of eye drop, allow at least 10 minutes between applications of the different medications. Trusopt is generally taken in 3 times per day, every day. After using all of your prescribed doses of this medicine (Trusopt), you might see that the bottle still contains some unused medicine. Do not try to remove it from the bottle. You should avoid letting the medicine’s dropper get into direct contact with any type of surface. The dropper is sterile, and it should remain so. If the dropper somehow gets contaminated, you might experience an unwanted eye infection. Before using a dose of this medicine you should check the drug’s consistency. You must not use a medicine that has particles in it or that has discolored. Ask your personal pharmacist how you can properly dispose of any unused medicine.

Trusopt Missed Dose

If you happen to miss using one of your scheduled doses of Trusopt we strongly advise you to take it as soon as you can. However, if it is time for another prescribed dose of this medical product, forget about the one that you have missed and continue your regular dosing treatment. Avoid using double doses of this medicine (Trusopt) without your personal physician’s direct approval.

Trusopt Side Effects

A prolonged treatment with Trusopt could trigger a series of severe side effects. You should stop your treatment with this medicine at once and alert your personal physician as soon as possible if you start to experience an allergic reaction to this medicine or to any of its main ingredients (swelling of the face, lips, or tongue; closing of the patient’s throat; difficulty breathing; or sometimes even hives).

A treatment with Trusopt could also trigger some other, less severe (but more common) side effects such as:

• burning, itching, stinging, or watering of one of the patient’s eyes;
• increased eye sensitivity to direct sunlight;
• blurred vision;
• headaches;
• a change in taste;
• a rash;
• fatigue;
• vomiting.

Trusopt Drug Reactions

Before you are allowed to start using Trusopt you should alert your personal health care provider if you are currently following a treatment with an oral anhydrase inhibitor like dichlorphenamide (Daranide), acetazolamide (Diamox), and methazolamide (Neptazane). Do not use this medical product unless your personal physician ahs advised you to. If you are also using another type of eye drop (with your physician’s approval) you ought to wait 10 minutes to pass between your doses of the 2 types of medicines.
