Monistat is a popular drug that belongs to a wide class of medicines known as antifungal drugs. Such medicines are meant to prevent the growth of fungus in the patient’s organism. Therefore, Monistat is widely prescribed to patients who are suffering from yeast (vaginal candida) infections.

Monistat Intake Guidelines

Before and after you apply the drug, you ought to wash your hands. The suppository, cream or tablet should be inserted in the vagina, with the help of the applicator. Do not stop your treatment with Monistat without your personal physician’s consent, even if you start to feel better after a few days of treatment, because in some cases the symptoms can improve even if the infection has not completely healed. You must use this drug continuously (this includes your menstrual period). If you suspect that the infection has not completely cleared or if it has gotten worse after your treatment with this medicine, you should alert your personal physician as soon as possible. You should avoid letting your eyes, mouth or nose get in contact with this medicine. Monistat should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from heat and moisture. Keep it away from the reach of pets and children in order to avoid unwanted accidents. 

During your treatment with Monistat, you should avoid wearing synthetic, tight-fitting clothes (such as panty hose) or any other underwear that does not allow the air to circulate properly. It is recommended that you should wear loose-fitting clothes (preferably those that are made of natural fibers such as cotton) until your infection has completely healed.

Monistat Dosage

Ask your doctor to calculate the dose of Monistat that suits you best. The correct dosage varies from one person to another, as it depends on a couple of factors (among them: body weight, the disorder’s severity, etc). Do not change the dose that you have been prescribed without your physician’s consent.

Monistat Overdose

Although an overdose of Monistat is unlikely, if you think that you have applied a much larger dose than the one that you have been prescribed, you should seek medical care at once. Monistat Missed Dose

Monistat Side Effects

You should stop your treatment with Monistat and seek medical care at once if you experience any of these allergic reaction symptoms: shortness of breath; throat closing; swelling of your lips, tongue, face; or hives.
 
There are other, less severe (but more common) side effects that can also occur. You may continue your treatment with this medicine, but you should inform your physician if you experience: burning, itching, skin irritation, and increased urination.

Other side effects may also occur when you take Monistat. You should inform your personal physician immediately if you experience anything unusual or bothersome while taking this drug.

Monistat Drug Reactions

You should not start a treatment with Monistat without asking your personal physician if it is safe, if you are taking Coumadin (Warfarin). In this case, you may have to take a lower dose of this medicine, or you may not be allowed to take it at all.
