MICROLUT (Levonorgestrel)

Microlut Information

Microlut contains the oral progestogen Levonorgestrel in a very low dose. Microlut is an oral contraceptive that prevents pregnancy by influencing the hormonal regulation circuit that contributes to the contraceptive action.

Microlut Indications

Microlut is indicated as an oral contraceptive to prevent pregnancy.

Microlut Warnings

Tell your doctor if you ever had an allergic reaction to Microlut. Talk to your doctor if you experience any allergic reaction to its active ingredients or any of its inactive ingredients.

The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of Microlut. Talk to your doctor before taking Microlut. Tell your doctor if you have:

• Deep vein thrombosis
• Pulmonary embolism
• Heart attack
• Brain stroke
• Angina pectoris or chest pain
• Transient ischaemia attack
• Small reversible stroke
• Severe liver disease
• Diabetes mellitus with blood vessel damage
• High blood levels of cholesterol or triglycerides
• Cancer of the breast
• Cancer of the genital organs
• benign or malignant liver tumor
• unexplained vaginal bleeding
• previous ectopic pregnancy

Furthermore, tell your doctor if you ever experience any of the following as you may need adjustment or you might not be able to use Microlut:

• smoking
• diabetes
• overweight
• high blood pressure
• thrombosis
• heart attack or a stroke
• Breast Cancer
• have liver disease
• suffer from migraine
• suffer from epilepsy
• ovarian cysts
• fibroids
• chloasma

Microlut should not be used if you are pregnant or if you think you are pregnant.

Microlut and other hormonal contraceptives is not recommended for use during Lactation. There appear no adverse effects on the growth and development of infants if Microlut is used six weeks after childbirth. Microlut does not affect the quantity or quality of the breast milk, although small amounts of hormone can be found in the breast milk.

Microlut Intake Guidelines

Take each dose of Microlut with a full glass of water.

Try taking each dose of Microlut at the same time each day.

Do not take more of Microlut than your doctor ordered.

If you haven’t used any hormonal contraceptive in the past month, start taking Microlut on the first day of your cycle.

If you are changing from a combined pill, start taking Microlut immediately after the last hormonal tablet from your present pill.

If you are using another Minipill and wish to start using Microlut, you may start using Microlut on any day without a break between the tablets.

If you have used a progestogen-only implant or injections to prevent pregnancy, you may switch from an implant on the day of its removal or from an injectable when the next injection would be due. Use a barrier method for the first 7 days of taking Microlut tablet.

If you are going to take Microlut after a miscarriage or an abortion, you may start taking Microlut immediately.

Microlut Dosage

Take Microlut exactly as directed by you doctor or as directed in the package. If you have any problems understanding it, ask your doctor about it.

Maintain an interval of exactly 24 hours between tablets. This interval should not be exceeded by more than 3 hours. The greatest possible reliability of Microlut can be assured only by adhering as closely as possible to the 24-hour intervals.

Microlut Overdose

There are no reported incidences of a Microlut overdose. Taking too many Microlut tablets may result to the following:

• nausea
• vomiting
• vaginal bleeding

Microlut Missed Dose

Take the missed dose of Microlut as soon as you remember. Taking the missed dose as soon as possible might mean that you take 2 tablets if it is almost time for you next regularly scheduled dose. Then return to your regular dosing schedule of taking Microlut. Furthermore, use barrier method during the first 7 days of taking Microlut. The more you miss your daily doses of Microlut, the higher the risks of pregnancy.

Microlut Side Effects

Contact your doctor immediately if a blood clot occurs while you are taking Microlut. The warning sign to be looked out for are the following:

• unusual cough
• severe pain in the chest which may reach the left arm
• breathlessness
• unusual, severe or prolonged headache
• migraine attack
• partial or complete loss of vision
• double vision
• slurring or speech disability
• sudden changes to your hearing, sense of smell, or taste
• dizziness or fainting
• weakness or numbness in any part of your body
• severe pain in your abdomen
• severe pain or swelling in either of your legs

Contact your doctor as soon as possible if the following occurs:

• any changes in your own health
• lump in your breast
• immobilization or surgery
• unusual, heavy vaginal bleeding
• missed period within 6 weeks after the last menstrual bleeding
• ectopic pregnancy

Contact your doctor if you suspect unwanted effects especially if severe or persistent or if there is a change in your health that you think might be caused by Microlut.

The following are reported effects of Microlut, as in any case of any Minipill, although Microlut alone might not cause these effects.

• menstrual disturbances
• breast tenderness
• headache
• dizziness
• changes in sexual drive
• depressive moods
• contact lens intolerance
• nausea
• vomiting
• changes in vaginal secretion
• various skin reactions
• changes in body weight
• hypersensitivity reactions

Side effects other than those listed in this medication guide may also occur. Talk to your doctor if side effects that seem unusual or especially bothersome occur.

Microlut Drug Reactions

Do not take other medicines unless they have been discussed with your doctor. Talk to your doctor before using any medicines or any over-the-counter medicines. Tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

• Primidone
• phenytoin
• barbiturates
• rifampicin
• antibiotics
• ampicillin
• tetracyclines
• griseofulvin
