Minocin Information

Minocin contains the main active ingredient called minocycline hydrochloride. Minocin belongs to the group tetracycline, which is used to treat infections caused by bacteria. Minocin works by interfering with the ability of the bacteria to produce proteins, which is very essential to the growth and increase of numbers to the bacteria. Minocin stops the spread of infection and the remaining bacteria are killed by the immune system or eventually die.

Minocin Indications

Minocin Warnings

Before taking Minocin tell your doctor if you have:

• Abnormal muscle weakness
• Decreased liver function
• Long-term inflammation of skin and some internal organs
• systemic lupus erythematosus
• People taking medicines that may have side effects on the liver
• Severely decreased kidney function
• Kidney failure

Do not take Minocin if you are allergic to its active ingredient or any of its inactive ingredients. If you have an allergy to Minocin, stop taking Minocin and immediately tell your doctor about it.

Minocin should not be used during pregnancy as it may present harm to the unborn baby. Seek medical advice.

Minocin is known to pass in small amounts in the breast milk. Caution should be used while taking Minocin if you are breastfeeding an infant. Talk to your doctor for more information about Minocin and nursing an infant.

The safety of Minocin in children has not been established.

Minocin Intake Guidelines

Avoid taking Minocin just before going to bed. To prevent irritation in the throat, take each dose of Minocin by swallowing whole with plenty of water while standing or sitting.

Try taking each dose of Minocin at the same time each day for best and most effective results.

Chances or risks of having side effects may be increased if a large amount of Minocin is prolonged in use.

Take Minocin at regular interval. Complete the prescribed course of Minocin unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Stopping the course early increases the chance that the infection will come back and that the bacteria will grow resistant to the antibiotic.

Do not take iron preparations or indigestion remedies as the same time of taking Minocin.

Minocin Dosage

Take Minocin exactly as prescribed by you doctor or as directed in the package. If you have any problems understanding it, ask your doctor about it. Your doctor will tell you how many tablets you need to take each day.

Minocin Overdose

Seek immediate medical attention if you suspect any symptoms of an overdose of Minocin.

There are no reported incidences of a Minocin overdose.

Minocin Missed Dose

Take the missed dose of Minocin as soon as you remember. However, it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of Minocin to avoid unwanted adverse side effects.

Minocin Side Effects

Along with the needed effects, Minocin also has unwanted adverse effects. Tell your doctor if side effects occur.

Tell your doctor if you notice any of the following side effects of Minocin:

• Diarrhea
• Inflammation of the pancreas
• Abnormal reaction of the skin to light, usually a rash
• Balance problems involving the inner ear
• Dizziness
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Sensation of ringing, or other noise in the ears
• Loss of appetite
• Skin reactions such as rash and itch
• Bowel infection resulting in inflammation of the bowel lining
• Liver disorders
• Difficulty or pain when swallowing
• Mild increase in pressure within the skull
• Overgrowth of the yeast Candida
• thrush
• Staining of skin, nails, teeth, sweat, tears, eyes, breast milk

All of these side effects may not occur in one time. Side effects other than those listed in this medication guide may also occur. Talk to your doctor if side effects that seem unusual or especially bothersome occur.

Minocin Drug Reactions

Do not take other medicines unless they have been discussed with your doctor. Talk to your doctor before using any medicines. Minocin and some medicines may interfere with each other.
